Angel's Lullaby (sequel to Where Do Broken Hearts go?), chapter 2

"How am I half angel?" I demanded. "Billie fell in love with me, and everyone can see me. You told me I could never come to heaven again."

"Yes that's right and if you'd let me explain..."

"But what's that have to do with our baby? Or rather our having a baby?" I said cutting Him off.

"I'm getting to that. Just listen. I understand your under stress and I know you have questions and I'm going to answer them to the best of my ability." I apologized for being so rude. He was God afterall. And he smiled and said that he understood.

"Shall I go on?" he asked. I nodded my head and he continued.

"Well when an angel becomes mortal, someone must be sent to heaven in their place. Did you know that?" My eyes widened in horror, and I shook my head no. He must have sensed my horror because he then said; "Not to worry, it's voluntary. The person chooses to give up their life."

"What if they don't want to?" I asked.

"Well seeing as I am God, I generally know the person who definitely would first hand. I visit them and tell them the situation, and then its usually a done deal. The records that appear for you, are actually your records switched with the person who took your place's records. People are then made to believe that you were alive all along and that the person who took your place is the one who died in the first place. Do you understand?"

"Yes." I said, nodding once more. "But then how am I half angel?"

"Well..." he continued. "Although you didn't know what happened on a concious level, subconciously your heart still aches to know who took your place. If one's heart aches too much, then that part of them holds onto being an angel, thus making you half angel."

"So I want to know who took my place?" I said, knowing that now that I found out what happened I did in fact want to know. God nodded. "But what does that all have to do with the fact that Billie and I can't have a baby?"

"Well as you know angels can't reproduce, and if you have one ounce of angel left in you, that rule applies to you as well. We wouldn't want mortal children with angel powers because in a sense that wouldn't make them mortal."

"So I have to get rid of the tiny bit of angel that's still left in me in order to be able to reproduce?" I asked.

"Exactly."

"Ok and let me guess, in order to do that, I have to find out who took my place so I can get rid of the ache is that right?"

"Your a bright young woman." he said smiling.

"So how do I go about doing that?" I asked anxiously.

"That, my child is for you to figure out for yourself." he said. And before I could utter another word I was back in the living room. I opened my eyes and screamed.

"Jesus Tay!" I shouted. "You scared the living daylights out of me."

"ME? Me scare you!? HA! I walk in and your lying there all limp on the couch, not moving and barely breathing. If it wasn't for the fact that every now and then you muttered, I would have called an ambulence."

"Nevermind that." I said shrugging her off. "I was just in heaven again."

"You were in heaven? How did you get there?" So I proceeded to tell her the entire story, as she sat there stiff as a board, listening intently.

"He didn't tell you how you could find this person? No clues no nothing?" she asked, flabbergasted.

"Nope, said I had to figure it out myself." Taylor abruptly picked up the phone and dialed a number. "Who are you calling?"

"Billie Joe." she said covering the reciever. She held up a finger to tell me to shush.

"Billie? It's Tay. Yea. You gotta get home ASAP. Can't explain over the phone. Just get home ok? Ok good. Bye"

"Well?" I said. I was desperately hoping Billie was on his way home. It really was a relief knowing that I didn't have a life threating disease which caused me to be unable to have children, and I wanted to share the news with Billie. Sure, it could be a problem finding who took my place, but if anyone could help me it would be Billie. He made all right in the world just with one kiss.

"He's on his way home. He probably thinks you're dying though, due to what I said to him." We both laughed and within less then 15 minutes Billie bolted through the door.

"What is it? What happened? Is Charlie ok?" he said, breathing heavy due to exasperation. I gave him a little wave signaling that I was indeed alive and well. He breathed a sigh of relief and flopped down on the couch next to me. Taylor and I looked to one another for a moment.

"We know why Charlie can't get pregnant." Taylor blurted. So much for telling him nice and slow.

"What? Wait how?" His eyes darted from me to Taylor and then back to me. I sighed and told the story over again, this time to Billie Joe. By the time I was finished his face looked somewhat relieved.

"Well this is good... Sort of. It's better then something awful that is impossible to fix." Billie said. Taylor looked at me and nodded toward the door, signaling that she would leave to give Billie and I time alone.

"So you think I can figure this out?" I asked. I hoped Billie would say yes, because if he didn't, I don't think I could do it on my own.

"No." he said bluntly. A knot formed in my throat. "There is no way in hell you're gonna do this without me." he said. A wave of relief washed over me, and I began to sob. I wrapped my arms around Billie and allowed him to hold me.

"Don't worry Char. We're in this together. Till death do us part, and I don't fuckin plan on dying in the near future. We can figure this out." He help me and reassured me until I fell asleep...
