Angel's Lullaby (sequel to Where Do Broken Hearts go?), chapter 5

"Richard Sinclair.." I said once more. "That was the name on the grave." Billie, Taylor, Tre and I all sat in the middle of our living room, on the same night Billie and I had returned from the grave.

"But who the hell is Richard Sinclair." Taylor asked, frusterated. It was about the third or fourth time she'd asked that question.

"I dunno! I never knew a Richard Sinclair. But whoever he was I got his last name."

"What was your last name when you were alive?" Tre said absentmindedly. He hadn't really said anything all evening.

"It was Whitman. Why, what's that matter?" I asked.

"I don't know. I thought maybe it was one of your parents. I don't see why you don't just look it up online." he said. He was now braiding the fringe on one of the throw pillows. I ran over to him, grabbed his face and kissed him on the cheek.

"You're truly brilliant Tre." I said. "You really don't get enough credit." I ran down the hall and into the book/computer room, Taylor, Billie, and Tre following behind me.

"How are you going to look him up though Char?" Billie asked me.

"I'm not. I'm going to look for my mother."

"Your mother?" they all said, practically in unison.

"Yes. If I look her up I can see my adoption papers. I don't know if I'll have the same parents, but I'm fairly sure I will. And it's not like any harm can be done by checking." It took me awhile but I found an online database where you could access adoption files.

"Maryanne Whitman. Here she is." I said. "That's my mom." I clicked on the name and held my breath.

"Shit! Shit shit shit!" I yelled. "You have to pay to get the report." Billie retrieved a credit card from his pocket and handed it to me. I quickly entered in all the information needed and was taken to the page with all of my adoption records. I had never actually been adopted of course, just put into an orphanage, but there they were, birth certificate and all.

"Oh my God." Billie practically whispered. He pointed to an area on the computer screen. Upon looking I felt my mouth drop open.

"Oh my God is right." I said.
