Angel's Lullaby (sequel to Where Do Broken Hearts go?), chapter 6
"Richard Sinclair." I gasped, and put my hand to my mouth.
"But wait.." Taylor said. "Wouldn't that make him your...your father?" I nodded my head.
"I get it now." I said turning to look at Billie, Tre, and Taylor. "When I was born, my parents weren't married, so my mom gave me her last name, Whitman. See here I've still been born, still been given up, only this time my mother chose to give me my father's last name." It was true. Looking at my birth certificate the name read "Charlie Sinclair" rather then "Charlie Whitman" like it had been the first time I lived.
"Of course she didn't actually choose, she was just made to think she did." Tre said.
"So your father, who you never knew, gave up his life for you?" Billie asked me.
"I'm guessing. I...I don't understand why he would do it though. He never even knew me. I....I feel kind of bad." I said. I immediately began to cry. Billie took me in his arms and rocked me back and forth.
"Aw Charlie, don't feel bad. He did it on his own will. "
"Yea Char...he must have cared somethin' fuckin' huge to have done that." Tre added. He came over and gave me a big hug, and Taylor soon joined. I wiped the tears from my eyes and tried to cheer up. Tre pushed me out of the chair and clicked on iTunes. He skimmed through the music and clicked on "Holding Out For A Hero." He picked up the hairbrush that I left on the desk, and used it as a microphone.
"WHERE HAVE ALL THE GOOD MEN GONE AND WHERE ARE ALL THE GODS?" He sang. He began to dance, and pretty soon we all joined in, and if only for a moment I didn't think about my father. The man who had given his life for me.
