Angel's Lullaby (sequel to Where Do Broken Hearts go?), chapter 8

"So it wasn't a dream." Billie Joe said in practically a whisper.

"Huh? What wasn't a dream?" I asked him.

"Well remember that fight we had? You know when you lost your powers." I nodded. "Well I had a dream with Adrienne in it the night before I came to find you. This looks exactly like the place where she and I spoke."

"It is the place." I replied. "It wasn't a dream... She just had to get you here while you were sleeping so you thought it was. Cuz I mean... How freaked out would you have been if Adie popped into your room in her angel form? So yea she brought you here. This is the section of heaven where an angel will bring you to talk to you."

"So all the other times I talked to Adie in a dream it wasn't really her?" he asked.

"No it was her. Angels usually bring humans here to tell them something important. Adie told you something important am I correct?"

"Yea. She did. If it wasn't for that dream I'd have never come to find you and I'd be kicking myself, miserable right now... So someone wants to tell you something important." he said.

"Yep." Just then a white mist began to swirl around us. About 10 feet away a cloud began to form. "And here they are." I said. The figure from the mist walked toward us. I rolled my eyes, it was so typically dramatic, so heavenly. Billie just stared in awe. The figure became clearer, and it wasn't until I really looked that I too stared in awe. Billie gasped.

"Charlie? Charlie is that you?" the man said.

"Y... Yes." I replied. I stared in awe at the man in front of me. He was no doubt Richard Sinclair, my father. I was a spitting image of him. He had the same red hair and blue eyes, and the same small feet. The mist had cleared completely and he sat down.

"My little girl." He leaned down and hugged me, and I hugged him back. "You must be Billie Joe Armstrong." he said turning to Billie Joe and shaking his hand. Then much to my surprise he began to cry. "God Charlie, there's so much I have to say to you. I love you so much."

"But why? Why did you give your life for me? You never even knew me. You gave me up for adoption. " I said.

"I never wanted to Charlie. I didn't even know Maryanne was pregnant. We were so young. She was 15 and I was 16. I didn't know. Her parents made her move away after they found out about us. She hadn't known she was pregnant either. I found out 18 years later in a letter. I found out she gave you up. I wanted to find you, I did find you, but it was too late. You were gone and it killed me. See she had given you her last name, but put my name on the birth certificate. If she had given you my last name I would have known sooner. I could have met you." At this I began to cry, but he continued. "I got really sick and the doctors only gave me a few months to live, so when God came to me and told me about what had happened, I knew I wouldn't be around much longer, and I knew it would be a gift to my only daughter even if you never knew. I was glad to do it. I'm also glad that the small angel part of you held on and wanted to know, because otherwise I never would have met my baby girl." He touched my face, and I gave him a hug and cried in his arms. This was the father I had never known. The father that never knew about me until it was too late. I looked up and noticed the mist coming back in, which I knew meant it was time for him to go. I reluctantly let him go. He gave me a final kill on the cheek then turned to Billie.

"I trust she's in good hands." he said. "It was nice meeting you... Son." Billie's eyes welled up with tears and he gave my father a hug.

"Don't worry I'll take good care of her." My father smiled and began to walk away. He stopped abruptly.

"I almost forgot to tell you about final present to you." Billie and I stood up.

"Haven't you already done enough?" I said, puzzled.

"Well you're no longer half angel so you get the one thing you want most for Christmas." Billie and I looked at each other. We were so caught up in solving the mystery, that we almost forgot the whole reason we were on this mission. My father quickly ran up to me and grabbed my hand.

"Both of you close your eyes." He said, and with that he stuck something into the palm of Billie's hand and then closed it. Within an instant we were back in our room.

"What did he?" I began. Billie smiled and held out his hand to me. My eyes lit up. There in the palm of his hand, was a tiny pair of mint green crocheted baby booties...
