Why did I end up with the Idiots?!, chapter 16

***24 June 2004 Thursday ***

When Jimmy woke up it was morning.
He looked around and grinned.
Then he took a deep breath and laughed.
He was out... free.
He wasn't a prisoner inside Jesus head anymore!
Yet even if Jimmy wanted to dance of joy he didn't.
The blood loss that Jesus had suffered from after that thing in the alleyway had made the body tired and weak.
"Well, it was worth sticking that knife in him! At least I got out!" Jimmy thought as he looked for the remote control for the TV that sat on the wall.
But some one must have taken it cuz' it wasn't there...

"Fuck!" Jimmy sighted and rested his back against the bed.

Hmm...
He started to look for buttons on the sides of the bed.
Yes!
He started to make the bed go up and down and so on and on until a nurse walked in.

"I guess you're feeling better today." She smiled at Jimmy. "Or do you want some calming medicine today too?"

"Nope! I'm much better! I was just... in a shock. And I kinda... closed myself up, you know?" he answered.

"Okay, then I guess I can tell your guest to come in and then I'll fix breakfast for you." The nurse said and walked to the door.

"Hey wait! What guest?" this was confusing! Either Jimmy or Jesus knew anyone here except that Willy guy.

"You don't remember? The lady that found you bleeding on the street. Amanda... " the nurse smiled and walked out.

Amanda?
Oh, yeah!
That Mandy chick from that runaway place...
Sanctuary, was it?
Yeah, that's it!
She walked into the room and smiled.
She had a little box of chocolate with her...

"Hi! You feeling better?" she asked and put the chocolate on the little table by the side of Jimmy's bed.

"Yeah... and I think I should thank you. So thanks." He said and took the chocolates as she sat down on one of those plastic hospital chairs.

"Then do you mind telling me about yourself?" Mandy asked. "Like... what's your name? Or a nickname is fine too... "

"I'm Jimmy." He simply answered with the mouth full of chocolaty-goodness.

"Okay... then do you remember me, Jimmy?"

"Yeah... I'm not stupid! You where the one who found me bleeding to death in that alley."

"Okay that's good. That you remember I mean!" she laughed. "But I gotta sk you... who did that too you?"

"I dunno... But I'm leaving L.A soon so I don't care... "

"Where are you going?"

"Hmm... I've been thinking about San Fransisco."

"Okay... then I'll give you this." Mandy said and gave him a piece of paper with a phone number and an address.

"And this is... what?" Jimmy asked and looked at her.

"It's the address and number to the 'Sanctuary' office in San Fransisco."

"What makes you think that I... " Jimmy stared but she cut him off.

"Hey! I know you're a runaway! I know exactly how it feels too... I ran away when I was thirteen! And I know that a lot of kids run away all the time, and I'd like to give them a place to stay. That's why I work with 'Sanctuary'."

"Oh... okay then... I'll go there, and check it out." Jimmy said and put the little paper on the table.

"Promise. I've saved your life and I don't want you to end up dead in some ditch!"

"Hey! Take it easy lady! Jeez... I'm not yours to take care of! I can take care of my own!" Jimmy muttered.

"Hey Jimmy! I've seen friends of mine and other kids from 'Sanctuary' end up dead, with their picture on the first page in almost every newspaper. I've meet parents that have lived in days, months even years without knowing if their kid is dead or alive. And I don't like it. And I don't want to see your mom or dad cry over your dead body... "

"Just mom... " Jimmy said.

"Huh? What?"

"Just mom. My dad died the day that I came to this world..." Jimmy answered.

Inside he was smiling.
Jimmy had only been around that long, but Jesus was older.
But no one else knew.

"Oh... I'm sorry to hear that... "

"Nah, I'm okay with it. But I just wanna ask you, when can I get outta here?"

"Erhm... I don't know... In a few days I guess. You lost a lot of blood." Mandy said, and was a bit confused by Jimmy's behaviour.

"But I wanna get the hell outta here!" Jimmy said and stared at Mandy who looked even more confused when Jimmy suddeny changed mood.

But he calmed down and smiled at her.

"Okay then... can I call someone? I got a friend here in town." He smiled, and acted so good that no one could ever think that he was the 'Patron Saint of the Denial'.

"Uh... sure... I'll talk to a nurse and see if we can get a phone in here or if we need to fix a wheelchair too you." Mandy mumbled and left the room.

But she didn't take her purse with her...
Jimmy seized the moment and stole some money from her wallet.
He could feel that Jesus got mad at him for doing this... but Jesus was trapped, so he had to deal with it.
He hid the cash under his pillow as Mandy came into the room again, with a portable phone.

"Here you go... " she said and gave it too him.

Jimmy just took it and dialled Willy's number.
After five signals he picked up.

"Yeah it's Willy."

"Hey Willy! Its Jimmy... "

"Hey you bitch! What the hell happened to you, man? You didn't get back here at Tuesday!"

"Aw... you where worried for me? I'm so touched... " Jimmy joked.

"Haha... now tell me. What the hell happened?"

"Well, I think I was attacked or something... I kinda dozed of that night so I don't remember much... but I know I woke up in a alleyway with a knife in my leg."

"Oh fuck!"

"Yeah... but anyways I'm at the hospital near your place I think... so would you mind getting your ass over here and bring me some of my stuff?"

"Erhm... can I bring ALL your stuff? It's like this... . I kinda got a girlfriend now... and I'd like to have the apartment alone with her... "

"Jeez... I'm gone two days and you hook up with a girl that you really like? Man, I thought you just had one-night-stands all the time!" Jimmy laughed.

"Shut up! I like her! And I'll bring your stuff over in a minute... or something like that... " Willy mumbled. "See you then, okay?"

"Yeah, sure... but you might have to describe me cuz' I haven't really been able too tell em' my name til' today... " Jimmy said and smiled.

This was the first day he COULD say his name...
The first day he could open HIS eyes and look around...
The first day he could laugh, cry, smile and do anything he wanted to do!
And he wanted to get out of the hospital...
