How The New Girl Got to Play with Sweet Children, chapter 1

Mike:

Mike stared wistfully at Billie Joe's new girlfriend. She had just moved there a week ago, and Billie was the first to greet her.
"Come to my locker with me, Billie?" Lola asked.
"Sure, hun. You comin' Mike?"
"I'll be in the library." Mike replied. "I got a History report due soon." "Suit yourself." Lola replied.
"We'll meet you there, Mike." Billie said as he and Lola left the cafeteria table and headed down the hall to Lola's locker.
Why couldn't I have met her first? Mike wondered. Why does Billie have to have all the luck?
He finished his french fries and headed down the opposite hall to his locker, then, upstairs to the library. When he got to the library, Lola and Billie were already there. Lola looked at Mike briefly, then decided that she wanted to embarrass him.
"Mike, are you checking me out?" Lola asked just loud enough for the whole library to hear, but not loud enough that the librarian would boot her out.
Mike blushed and looked away quickly.
"I-I left something in my locker, I-I'll be right back."
Instead of going to his locker, Mike went to the bathroom and-finding it empty-slapped himself across the face.
"You idiot!" He yelled at himself, not knowing that Lola had followed him and was listening outside the bathroom. "She's Billie's girlfriend and you shouldn't be checking her out when she's looking!"
"You shouldn't be checking her out, period." Billie said calmly as he waltzed in.
Mike turned red with embarrassment and ran from the bathroom, and off school property.
