Before They Were Green, chapter 2
Ollie Armstrong was making her bed when Billie Joe jumped into her room.
"HEY MOM!" he cried, the biggest sarcastic smile plastered on his face.
"Oh, no... Billie Joe!" Ollie cried, dropping a pillow in surprise. Billie Joe's hair was shaved at the sides and there were little bits sticking out at the top. Ollie grabbed her son's chin with her right hand and tilted his head from side to side, examining his haircut... Or if you can even call it a haircut. Billie still managed a wide sarcastic smile through slightly squashed cheeks. Ollie finally let go of Billie's chin and sadly asked;
"Why? Who cut your hair Billie?"
"My good ol' buddie Tom from my english class." He pouted with puppydog eyes then flashed her a fast, huge, squinted-eyed smile then ran out of the room, kicking his heels at the doorway.
"I have a fool for a son." Ollie thought to herself.

Mike sat at the dinner table eating his supper quitely.
"Can you pass the salt?" he asked, bareley above a whisper. His mom, sister Myla, and step-dad had to strain their ears to hear him. Mike's step-dad passed him the salt. Mike took it, still not looking up from his food.
"That's it Michael!" Mike's step-dad yelled, standing up from his chair and walking over to Mike.
"I am sick and tired of you ignoring us, I'm tired of your teenage ways! Your room is a mess, and you're always lazy! I work hard for this family! You never say thank-you! You can commit to more, you know! You're a part of this family too!"
"Am I?" Mike loudly interrupted, "You're always telling me how imperfect I am. And in case you haven't noticed, I'm adopted! This is NOT my family!" he screamed, tears forming in his eyes. His step-dad grabbed him by his bony wrists.
"Go to your room now and get the hell outta my face! You're disgusting! No dinner for you tonight! Myla clean off his plate now!" he yelled. Mike's mom got up to say somthing but his step-dad told her to sit down and be quiet. Mike ran to his room and slammed the door. As soon as he got in he fell to the floor, silently crying.

Tre was walking home from school. He missed the bus. A light autumn breeze blew through his hair. Tre's black Converses' crunched through red and orange leaves. He ajusted his schoolbag and looked up from his feet. He saw a very beautiful girl. She had long straight brown hair whipping around in the breeze. She had chocolate-brown eyes from what Tre could tell. She was a little distance away in the park to his left. He kept on staring at her, she was almost heavenly.
*BANG!*
Tre hit a bus-stop.
