Always Remember Me, chapter 24

-Recap-
I signed off and immediately phoned Mike.
"Hello?"
"Mike where are you?"
"Uhm. At Rudy's Can't Fail Cafe' with Brittany."
"Who's Brittany?"
"What? I can't hear you, you're cutting out. I need to talk to you later. It's important, so when I get home I will talk with you. Bye."
He hung up right away and left me hanging.

I held back my tears and I decided I would go for a walk, to get some thinking time in. I took Michelle to the neighbour's house and then went. Not even five minutes after I left, my cell phone rang, it was Billie.
"Dani, can you please come over. I need to talk to you. I need help."
"Yeah, I'll be right there."

A few minutes later I found myself knocking on Billie's door. He opened the door, and for one of the first times, his face was covered in tears, and he wasn't hiding it. He pulled me inside and hugged me.
"I'm so sorry Dani. I love you."
I pulled away from him and looked him in the eye.
"Where is Adrienne and the kids?"
"They're all out."
"Why did you call me, and not Tre' or Mike?"
"They're both out with their girls. Oh and sorry to hear about you and Mike."
"Uhh, what are you talking about. There is nothing wrong with me and Mike. And what the hell do you mean by 'his girl'?"
"There's a lot to explain right now..."
"Yeah I can see that. Tell me everything."
"Okay, well first of all. Mike, I thought he wasn't with you anymore. He hooked up with his old lover, Brittany. He's been seeing her for a while now. I think he is going to propose to her."
"W-What...." I was crying now and I grabbed onto Billie for comfort.
"Geeze we're a bunch of little girls crying over a highschool breakup," Billie joked.

I slightly laughed and we sat there in silence for a minute.
Finally I spoke, "I dont' know what to do anymore Billie. I've lost everything I've ever loved. First you, then Mike, then Tre', then Mike again. My kid hates me and children's aid is trying to take her away from me." I cried onto his shoulder.
"What! They're trying to take Michelle away??"
I nodded. "They can't take her away from me. She's the only thing I have left Billie. My friends are moving away, Sarah doesn't talk to me much anymore 'cause she's with Tre', and when she's not, she goes back home and that's an hour or two away. She never phones me."

Billie tucked my hair behind my ears so he could see my face as we both cried.
"Dani, you know I love you."
"I know. And I love you more than anything else, other than Michelle. But you're taken, and soon she might be too. Anyways, I came here to talk about the Adrienne dilema. Billie, I think I should tell her. She might hate me but..."
"No. She's be happier if I tell her. She might hate me, but not as much. I just want you to be there when I tell her."
"Okay."
There was a long pause.
"Billie."
"Yeah Dani?"
"Can we watch a movie and eat ice cream, for old times sake?"
He smiled that perfect smile, and nodded. We sat down and watched our movie, and ate ice cream. I felt his arm wrap around me. I rested my head on his shoulder. It felt like we were teens again. I loved it, I didn't want this to end.
But then the movie ended, it seemed like it ended too quick.

I fell asleep right after the movie on Billie's shoulder and woke up to Adrienne coming into the house. Billie was walking around and he had put a blanket over top of me. I pretended that I was still asleep so she wouldn't suspect anything.

"Is that Dani sleeping on the couch?" Adrienne whispered.
"Yeah, she needed to talk to me so we watched a movie, she fell asleep so I didn't wake her."
Just then I pretended to wake up.
"Hey sleepyhead." Billie smiled at me, and I tiredly smiled back.
"Where are the kids?"
"They're at a friends house right now," Adrienne said putting down her groceries.
"Adie..I need to talk to you. And Dani needs to be here too."

I sat down slightly beside him and started to cry, and he did as well. I got up again and sat far away from him, on the couch. Adrienne was so confused. Poor girl, she's gone through so much.
"I'm listening."
"It has something to do with Michelle. And I know after I tell you, you will hate me. So I packed up some of my things already. And I want you to know, I love you more than anything in the world. I always have and I always will. You mean everything to me Adie, and I never wanted to lose you," Billie said in tears.
She looked concerned and looked like she was going to cry.
"I guess there is no easy way to tell you this, so I guess I just have to say it.
I know, that you know, that Michelle is Dani's child...but the thing is. She's my child too. I slept with her." I sobbed into my hands, not able to breathe.
