Green Eyes, chapter 5

"That's it Stevie... steady... " Tré's voice coaxed her as he held her arm to keep her from falling. She resisted the urge to let out a frustrated cry, she hated being so helpless. She had been in the military, she was used to being able to do everything be herself. Now, she needed someone to even help her eat.

She didn't like it, but as for now, she couldn't walk on her own and she couldn't see. She didn't know what she was going to do. Sighing she shook her head, "Just... help me back to the bed Tré... I-I can't do it... not now... "

She heard him sigh as well and she blinked back the tears. Her heart was breaking slowly, everyday the bitter realization that Billie wasn't coming back hit her and each time her heart would crack.

"Did he come back?" She would ask, staring blankly into nothing.

"... No... Steve... we're sorry... " They would reply and she wouldn't say anything. She knew she was withdrawing from everything and everyone. She tried to act normal around Joey and Jakob; they didn't deserve to see her like this. But it was so hard; they were spitting images of him, the only thing she had left to remember him by. And she might not be able to ever see them again.

Tré helped her lay onto the bed and she let out a quiet sob. "Hey... hey, hey, don't cry... " Tré said, and she felt his arms wrap around her in a hug. "Everything will be alright... "

She was so sick of hearing that. So sick. They were lying to her, even though she couldn't see them, the hesitant glances they flashed each other, she could tell by their voices. The forced happiness that masked the underlying, secret pain they were keeping from her.

"Stop." She said suddenly.

"What?" Tré questioned, a bit confused. He knew she was slightly frustrated and he knew it was going to take sometime for her to get better. Well, as better as she was going to get. He also knew that she was quite upset by the whole ordeal with Billie, they all were. They often cried, not wanting to believe that it was really true.

"Stop saying that." She demanded, turning her head away. He frowned, still bewildered, what did he say?

"Stop saying what?" He inquired gently, not wanting to push her further in her frustration.

"Stop saying 'everything will be alright', I don't want to hear it, I don't like hearing it." She snapped, covering her eyes with her hands. He stared at her pretty face in concern, she had figured out that everything wasn't like it used to be and it never would be.

"Sorry... we're just trying to help... " He murmured, sitting down in the chair beside her bed and pulling his lighter out of his pocket, he flicked it open so the flame shimmered, then shut it again. He repeated the process over and over.

"I-I know... but, it's just... I know it's not true, and I don't like being lied to... " She murmured.

"We're sorry... we just... don't-don't know what to do. What to say, how to act." He confessed, staring at the fire.

She could smell the slight burning odor of fire and scrunched her nose, she had always had a problem with him smoking, "You're not supposed to light that in here." She commented, wanting to change the subject, it was getting a little uncomfortable.

Tré smirked, "When do we evuur listen?" He teased, laughing. Stevie joined him and for once she was awake in the hospital, the pain in her heart lightened.

"I dunno," She said, still chuckling a bit, "But when you do listen you still don't do it right." Tré laughed even harder and closed his eyes, leaning his head back against the chair.

"Remember when Billie called you on stage?" He asked, grinning at the memory.

A smile lit Stevie's face, "That was the first time I met him." Her smile widened, "He was still with Adrienne then. But he took me out that night. And showed me the time of my life," She laughed quietly at the irony, "I thought it'd just be a small thing. You know, just he wanted me to loosen up a bit. But he still chased after me."

Tré smirked, "Adie wasn't too fond of this." He added, and Stevie smirked with noticeable smugness, but she sighed.

"No, but she handled it well, and was... is... extremely tolerable of me. She isn't bad." She sighed and grinned even wider, "I don't know exactly why he chose me. But I knew I loved him for a long time."

Tré smiled, "He always told us that he saw you in the crowd and lost his mind. He said he chose you out of all the people because he knew there was something special."

Stevie laughed, "Haha, and what he got was a bitch."

Tré smirked, "Yup. A bitch. A bitchy bitchy bitchness bitch."

Stevie shook her head, "You're mean!" She exclaimed jokingly, pretending to cry. It was amazing, sometimes you just needed a friend. And Tré was one of the greatest friends you could ask for.

The door opened, and Tré glanced up. Mike was walking in with a CD player and a bunch of CDs. "You must be getting bored in here... " He began, setting the items on the small table next to her. "So I brought you some things."

Stevie smiled, "Thanks." She murmured, "You're too kind."

Mike grinned, "Yeah, I know. I was just walking and I decided I should be nice." He teased, and Stevie's smile grew. She was actually smiling so much that her jaw was beginning to ache, but she couldn't stop.

"You guys are too much." She said as she heard Armatage Shanks come from the CD player.

Mike and Tré exchanged glances and grins and then returned their eyes back to the young woman their best friend for over twenty years had fallen in love with. They both knew the reason Billie had fallen so hard for her. And maybe they'd tell her soon, if... when they found out exactly what happened to their friend. But for now, as long as she was smiling, it could wait.

The man walked up to the front desk, a grin on his young face as he glanced back briefly to his boss who sat waiting in the shadows of the car. Reaching into his coat pocket he pulled out the little plastic bag filled with the drug.

"S'cuse me Miss," He said. The nurse looked up from the paper work piled high in front of her.

"Yes?"

"There's a man out there who was taking this," He presented the bag, "And... he jus collapsed. Could you come take a look?" The nurse's eyes widened and she nodded quickly as she hurried out from behind the desk.

"Oh, of course. Just lead the way." She said and he nodded as well. They both made their way out of the hospital.

The young man gave his boss a thumbs up as he passed, leading the nurse further and further down the city blocks. The man in the car smirked to himself and got out.

"Perfect... " He muttered, walking into the building and heading for the stairs.

"Hey Mike... sing me a song?"

"Sure thing, Steve."

I've got some scattered pictures lying on my bedroom floor
Reminds me of the times we shared
Makes me wish that you were here
Now it seems I've forgotten my purpose in this life
All the songs have been erased
Guess I've learned from my mistakes
