Touchin Leads To Sex And Then There's No Mystery Left (A Sequel To U Can't Do This To Me Mike), chapter 6
Three a.m., the first signs of morning were dashing in through the partings in the curtains, faint dashes of light spangled onto the saddened face of someone who should have been sleeping, but every time his tired eyelids sealed he snapped awake in shock thinking about the events that had happened the previous day. Suddenly the shrill ring of the phone ruptured the death like silence in the living room; diving across the couch he answered it,
"Hello?"
"Hey Jason."
"Hey Adie, are you okay?"
Adie's voice was shaking.
"I'm fine; I just needed to talk to you Jas, if it's not too late."
"Oh okay, it's fine, go ahead."
Adie took a deep breath, "I've been thinking, about the whole situation, I was thinking, that... maybe Mike did this on purpose."
"WHAT?" Jason felt horrified; he couldn't believe what she had just said.
"I mean I was hard on him before and I will say sorry to him, but I can't stop thinking that Mike wants Billie dead, it's like if he couldn't have him, no one can."
"Adie... you're talking nonsense, I think you need to sleep..."
"I DON'T NEED TO SLEEP! I realize what's going on and that's why I want Mike to stay away from Billie, because I know that Mike loves Billie and Billie loves Mike and Mike would rather see Billie dead then have to choose between me and him. Billie has kids that need their dad, so I'm asking you, to keep Mike away from Billie; I don't want Mike to see him at all."
The phone went dead. Jason put the receiver down gob smacked, he didn't know whether he had just dreamed that or not. How the hell was he supposed to keep Mike away from Billie?
Ken, the PR guy, was a man who was tall and lanky, but wore clothes that made him look huge. Ken arrived at noon and the three remaining Green Day members gathered around Jason's kitchen table awaiting the verdict.
"Well..." Ken started by pulling out various clippings and papers, "this takes the biscuit, lads, doesn't it?"
Tre gulped,.
"I mean how are we going to explain that Green Day is postponed until further notice?"
"Tell them the truth," Mike sighed, his head falling into his hands.
Ken snorted, "Oh yeah, Green Day's on a break because the lead singer was hit by his bassists' car and he may never wake up. Good one, Mike."
Mike sighed, "Well what do you want to say?"
"Realistically? Nothing, I don't want to say anything, but I'm just concerned because rumors are already starting to surface."
Jason chewed his lip as Tre leaned forward and grabbed the papers, his brow furrowed as he read aloud,
"Kerrang magazine: Green Day fans have been emailing asking if the new album is nearly ready, Green Day refuses to comment which sparks questions whether there is tension in the band... "
Tre rolled his eyes and shuffled to the next page,
"GSB: FinkyKinky says: I'm having Green Day withdrawal symptoms!
Treishot says: Me too! Do you think that Mike and Billie have just run off together, lol?"
Tre looked up at Mike who shuffled in his seat.
"They are closer to the truth than they think," he smiled.
Mike frowned. "Well should we make a statement or not?" he directed at Ken.
"I think we should just say that Billie is ill and is recovering," Jason spat.
"If that's what you want to say," Ken sighed.
"I don't want to lie to the fans, they have a right to know, I don't want them to think we are just lazy bastards."
Jason shook his head, "No Tre, what they don't know can't hurt them."
"Jason's right, I'll make that statement then," Ken sighed again getting up. "Awful business this, I hope the guy pulls through."
Mike got up also, "I'm going to go down and see him."
"NO!" Jason shot up from his seat. "You can't do that!"
Every one swiveled to look at the guitarist.
"I mean... erm... you have to help us with this, Mike."
Mike looked puzzled. Thinking it over, he agreed and sat down again.
"Okay, but it better be quick."
Jason breathed a sigh of relief; he hoped this meeting would last a long time.
