What Mysterious Figure?, chapter 14
"Mr. Armstrong. Excuse me Mr. Armstrong." Was what Billie Joe woke up to the next morning. Billie Joe sat up and asked the woman who she was and what she wanted.
"Well, Mr. Armstrong, I'm your new nurse. Your original nurse was transferred to a different part of the building. Anyway, I'm here to run a few tests."
Billie Joe looked around the room for the clock as the nurse was checking his blood pressure. It was 1:30 in the afternoon.
"Oh! By the way Mr. Armstrong, your wife asked me to tell you that she went home to get cleaned up and that she would return as soon as she was done."
"Did she leave by herself?" Billie Joe asked worriedly.
"She said you ask that. Yes, she did leave alone."
A few moments passed and the nurse was still running tests.
"When will I be allowed to leave?" Billie asked the nurse.
"That will be determined by the outcome of the tests I'm running."
Billie nodded and after half an hour of running tests the nurse finally left. He awaited Adrienne's return, but passed the time by working on a book of crossword puzzles Tre had bought him from the gift shop.
Adrienne arrived and stood in the doorway of her husband's hospital room and watched him work on the crossword puzzles for a few minutes. She tried to stay quiet, but let out a small laugh when she saw the face Billie makes when he's concentrating. He heard her laugh and looked up.
"Hey, Sweetie. How ya been?" Billie asked sweetly.
"Pretty good, now that I'm all refreshed. Hospitals make me feel so... gross."
Billie chuckled and put down the crossword puzzle and pulled Adrienne down beside him and nuzzled his face in the crook of her neck.
"Mmmm. You smell good." He mumbled. Adrienne laughed.
"Thanks. Where'd you get the crossword puzzle book?"
"Tre bought it at the gift shop."
"Tre knows you like crosswords?" Adrienne asked stunned because she knew Billie Joe didn't want Mike or Tre to know he liked solving crossword puzzles.
"Yeah. On tour he and Mike were rummaging through my stuff and found my crossword stash I hide under the mattress of my bunk." Adrienne smiled and Billie continued.
"I was their big joke there for a hot minute on tour. So he and Mike each bought me a crossword the other day as a joke before they left. Little do they know how much I'm enjoying them." He smiled a cheeky smile and Adrienne laughed and layed back down with her husband.
Billie asked his wife why it took her so long to return from the house and if she ran into any trouble. She explained that after she got ready to return to the hospital, she decided to clean up the mess their intruder had left. Billie let out a small chuckle.
"Are you laughing at me?" Adrienne asked with a smile.
"Yes, but only because you're such a neat freak."
"No, you're just a slob." They both laughed.
"But, I love your cleanliness."
"And I love your messy ways." They smiled and shared a loving kiss.
A few hours later Mike called with the daily update of the situation, still they had gotten no where but were planning on taking action soon. But Billie wanted them to wait until he and Adrienne could help, so Mike and Tre decided they would wait. The nurse came in later that same day and announced that Billie could leave in a few days. Those days passed and they decided to help Mike and Tre.
