Worry Rock, chapter 3
Things had been going well. But that September girl just had to ruin it, didn't she?
Ya see, we were scurrying along to the food court, Mike, Billie, Tre, his new love Tabby and me, and we were buying all of this random food when I noticed Billie eyeing up a girl in the far corner.
I felt a pang of jealousy towards this random girl, whoever she was. Billie obviously liked her and I didn't know what to do about it. I stared at him a moment longer before Mike nudged me.
"Oreo?" He suggested. I smiled as best as I could.
"Oreo."
After a while, I noticed Billie lost a little interest in the girl across the room. I am still worried though. Tabby helped a little. She was really great. Every time she made me laugh, I forgot about my problem, but then it all came flooding back and it was so horrible.
It was made worse. The girl came over. My heart sank. This was not happening. Oh wait . . . Yes. It was.
She sidled up to us, her eyes darting towards Billie. And then she opened her mouth to speak to him. She spoke softly and gently, blushing at every word. She kept flicking her blonde hair out of her eyes. My heart was thundering. I worried like hell.
"So, anyway, I was just wondering . . . If you'd like to . . . Ya know, maybe . . . Maybe you'd like to hang out sometime?" The girl eventually finished.
Of course Billie said yes. And it wasn't fair. This girl had said her name was September. It suited her perfectly. She was beautiful.
I hated her.
They were going to the movies. September and Billie. Wow, what an original choice! I don't think. I just knew what it would be like. It would be one of those times when they go and watch some stupid love film that they don't even want to see and Billie will do the whole yawn-and-stetch-and-swing-your-arm-swiftly-around-your-future-girlfriend's-shoulder. And then September will move closer to him and then . . . And then . . . I don't even want to put it.
The worst part is, we found out that September is a new student at our high school. Great. 'Note the sarcasm in that, people.'
It was Friday night. The night Billie and September were going on their little 'date'. I shuddered when I thought about it. It was one of those shudders you get when you think about Jack the Ripper murdering those five women in such grotesque detail. He was awful. So was the idea of September and Billie being together.
