We Meet Again, chapter 1

I picked up my coffee from the counter of the local cafe and without looking up, started walking towards the door.

Clumsiness has always been a problem for me but this time, if I could, I would probably thank it.

Well, you know what I mean.

Anyways, I crashed right into a man. My coffee splashed all over the place.

"Shit. I am so sorry," I said, frusterated. I grabbed for the napkins I saw on a nearby table.

"Don't worry about it."

That voice sounded unusually familiar. I looked up and almost dropped what was left of my coffee.

"Billie Joe?" I gasped. He looked at me again and smiled.

"Hi, Rebecca."

Billie Joe and I had dated back in high school. I was 15 and he was 17. We both went to Pinole Valley High. But we met eachother at Gilman. Billie Joe had a show with his band, Sweet Children, that night. After they were finished, he walked up to me and we just started talking. I guess you could say that we hit it off. So, we began hanging out more and more often. And that's how our relationship started.

Shortly before Billie turned 18, he dropped out of high school to commit more time to the band. But then the band's drummer, Al, quit on them. Mike and Billie Joe were worried that they wouldn't be able to continue the band.

Then, Tre Cool came into the picture. Billie and Mike were kind of blown away at how talented this guy was. So Tre quickly became the band's new drummer. Tre Cool was definetly alot better then Al. Everybody thought so.

They soon changed their band name from Sweet Children to Green Day.

The day after Mike's high school graduation, Green Day went on tour around the country.

Billie Joe and I talked to eachother over the phone while he was away. When he came home after the tour, we decided to just be friends. We soon lost touch with eachother.

"I'm gonna get another coffee. But after that do you want to sit with me? You know... Do some catching up?" I asked a little nervously. Billie Joe nodded.

"Yeah. That sounds great."

I smiled, turned around, and bought a new coffee.

"Do you still live around here?" I asked as I sat down at the table Billie Joe was at.

"Yeah, I actually only live about 10 minutes away," He replied and took a sip of his coffee. I slowly nodded.

"How are Tre and Mike doing?" I asked.

"Good. Tre still has way to much energy and Mike... Is still just Mike. Calm and relaxed," He smiled to himself.

"I remember Tre put chocolate pudding in Mike's shoes once. Mike got so mad..." I trailed off. Billie Joe laughed.

"Tre still does things like that every once in a while," He said.

We talked about random things untill finally i couldn't hold it in anymore. I had to ask.

"You've gotta have a wife and kids right?"

Billie's face fell.

"Well, um... I did. I mean I do," He stuttered. "My wife, Adrienne, is divorcing me," He said sadly.

"Oh, god. I am so sorry, Billie Joe," I comfortingly placed my hand ontop of his. He gave me a weak smile.

"According to her, I'm not home enough. She said that it's as if she's raising our sons on her own."

"You have kids?"

"Yeah. Two boys. Joey is 10 and Jakob is 7," He seemed a little happier talking about his kids.

It was silant for a couple of minutes before Billie Joe asked, "What about you?"

"What do you mean?" I asked, confused.

"You know...do you have kids and a husband, or something?"

"Oh. Uh, no. I'v never gotton married and I don't have any kids," I answered.

Silance fell upon us again. Untill, "Listen, Bill. I'm throwing a birthday party for my friend, Caroline, on Friday at my house. Would you like to come?" I asked.

Billie Joe smiled.

Ok, he's smiling. That's a good thing, I thought.

"Yeah. I'd love to," He said.

"Ok. Here's my phone number and address..." I said while scribbling the info on a napkin.

"Thanks," He said as I handed it to him.

"I gotta go now. But you can call me whenever," I said and stood up. Billie Joe nodded.

"Ok. I'll see you on Friday. Bye," He waved as I walked out the door.
