We Meet Again, chapter 2

It was the night of the party. I was really eager to see if Billie Joe would show up or not. I mean, he was going through a divorce. This was a hard time for him. I didn't expect him to come or anything, I would just be really happy if he did.

I was still a little shocked that I actually ran into him in the first place. I hadn't seen him or almost 15 years!

I heard the doorbell ring and almost jumped up from where I sat.

But instead I calmly stood up and walked out of the living room and to the front door.

Please let it be Billie, I silently prayed to myself.

I swung the door open and smiled.

"Hey, Becca. Did Caroline get here yet?" It was Jack, a friend of ours who worked at the studio with us.

"No. She'll be here in about 20 minutes," I said, a little disappointed that it wasn't Billie standing before me.

"OK, good," He said and disappeared into the living room.

I sighed and sat at the bottom of the stairs.

I guess you could say that I was a little stressed out.

I didn't even understand why. I mean, it was just Billie. The same Billie that I knew and loved 15 years ago.

I had been pondering this for about 5 minutes when I heard the doorbell ring again.

I got a little more excited thinking that it could be Billie Joe. Finally.

I took a deep breath and opened the door.

"You made it!" I said happily. Yes, it was Billie Joe.

"Sorry I'm late. I got a little lost," He said. I let out a small laugh.

"You never had a good sense of direction."

"Yeah I did! And I still do," He protested.

"Then how did you get lost?" I raised my eyebrows.

"Um, I don't know..." He said slowly. I laughed again and shook my head.

"Do you want anything to drink?" I asked as we walked into the kitchen.

"No thanks," He replied and held up the gift in his hand. "But where should I put this?"

"Oh, sorry. I'll take it," I took the little bag from him.

"I didn't know what to get her so I just got an American Express gift card," He scratched the back of his head.

"That's fine. I should have told you not to bring anything. You don't really know her or anything," I said and placed it on top of the big pile of presents. Billie Joe shrugged.

"It's OK. I mean, it is her birthday..." He said simply. I just smiled.

"How are you doing? You know...with the divorce and everything," I asked.

"Good, I guess. Her and the boys moved out yesterday. They're living with her parents in Minnesota for the time being," He said sadly.

"That must be so hard on you. I can't tell you how sorry I am."

"Thanks, Bec."

I smiled softly.

Then, the doorbell rang again.

"Caroline is here!" I whispered loudly and ran into the living room where everybody else was. Billie Joe followed me.

"Everybody hide! She's here," I whisper-yelled. It was obviously a surprise party.

After everyone was hidden, I turned off the lights and pulled Billie Joe down with me behind a couch.

We heard footsteps through the kitchen.

"Rebecca? Are you home?" She walked into the living room and flipped the switch.

"Surprise!" Everyone yelled together.

Caroline put her hand up to her chest.

"Oh, my God," She gasped. "You scared me!"

The rest of the night had been great. Everyone left my house happy. The only people left were Billie Joe, Caroline and her boyfriend, Tom, and of course, me.

"Thank you so much, Becca," Caroline said, giving me a hug. "I had a great time."

"Your welcome," I gave her a smile.

"I'll talk to you tomorrow," She said as she pulled on her jacket.

"It was nice to meet you Billie Joe," She shook his hand. "And thanks for the gift."

"It's no problem," He smiled.

Her and Tom closed the front door behind them.

"Now, I have to clean the house a little," I said and let out a breath.

"I'll help you," Billie offered.

"Thanks."

We threw out all the plastic cups and plates and cleaned the counter in the kitchen.

I was washing the wine glasses in the sink when Billie Joe scooped up the suds in his hands and rubbed them in my face.

I stuck my hands in the sink and splashed Billie Joe with the water.

We continued our soap and water fight for another 15 minutes.

"I am soaked," I said, ringing out the end of my shirt over the sink. Billie laughed.

"Oh, and I'm dry," He said sarcastically.

"Well, you started it!"

"No, I didn't. You did."

"You are pathetic."

"You're mean!" He whined.

I thought for a second and then said, "I wanna show you something."

I ran up the stairs and stopped in front of one of the closed doors. Billie Joe stood next to me.

"Now, behind this door...you will see something amazing," I said dramatically. "Are you ready for this?"

"You say I'm pathetic?" Billie Joe raised his eyebrows. I pouted.

"Now you are the one being mean!" I said, "Whatever. I'm opening the door. Are you sure you are ready?"

"Yeah! Just open the fucking door!" Billie Joe said, obviously annoyed by me.

"OK Jesus! All you had to do was ask!" I smiled to myself and pushed the door open. I stepped aside and let Billie Joe walk in.

"Welcome to my music room!" I threw my arms out in front of me.

"Woah. This is awesome," Billie Joe gawked. I had a drum kit, 5 guitars, and a bass. There were also many items hung on the walls that were signed by famous artists.

"Thanks," I smiled.

"What does that door lead to?" Billie Joe asked, pointing at the door on the other side of the room.

"My room." I said simply.

"Ohhh! I wanna see it!" He said excitedly and ran to it. I laughed.

He opened it and stepped inside, I followed him.

"Nice," He said quietly to himself and started jumping on my bed.

"Bouncy! Come on up, Rebecca! It's fun," He said still jumping.

"You act like a 5 year old," I said trying to hold in my laughter.

"But it's fun!"

"Get off my bed, you are all wet!"

"Make me," He said and stuck out his tongue.

"Fine," I grabbed his ankle. He fell on his ass on the ground.

"Oh shit! That fucking hurt!" He stood up while rubbing his butt.

"Sorry," I said sarcastically and laid down on the bed. I felt his body next to mine.

"So. What did you do after we lost touch with each other?" He asked.

"Well... I finished high school, went to college, and now I work at a recording studio," I let out a breath.

"Cool."

"What about you?" I asked even though I kind of new already.

"I got married to Adrienne in '94, had Joey, had Jakob, made more albums, went on tour, made American Idiot, and went on tour," He said.

"Mhm," I nodded.

"Adrienne divorced me because I was never home and when I was home, we fought."

I frowned and nodded again.

It was silent for a long time, until Billie Joe leaned over me and kissed me.

I looked at him for a second with a shocked expression on my face.

"Sorry..." He looked away, embarrassed.

"No, it's OK," I said and pulled him down for another one.

Before I could even say 'supercalafragalisticexbealadosious' our kisses became deeper and more passionate.

Part of me was telling me to stop while another part of me was urging me to keep going.

I was mentally weak. I couldn't stop.

At that moment, all I wanted was him.
