This Is How Green Day Helped Me With My Life, chapter 7
The next morning Billie had gotten a phone call from Al. "Hey Al whats up? Are you kidding? You cant! You dont need to go to college! So what are we going to about not having a drummer? Fine." Billie slamed the phone down. He walked over Mike's house. Mike opened the door.
"Hey Billie you look unhappy." Billie stormed into Mike's house.
"Al is leaving. We dont have a fucking drummer!" Mike was shocked.
"Are you serious?" Billie nodded."Well have you told Emily yet?" Billie shook his head.
"No. But im going to tell her," Billie and Mike left.
"Hey Emily wanna go out Gilman? We have to talk to you." I got my sweatshirt and left with them.
"So what's up?"
"Well you know Al right?" I looked at him in a funny way.
"Why wouldn't I not know who he is?" Mike proceeded.
"Well he is leaving the band and that means no drummer."
That sucks! I didnt know what to say exept find another one. "Well can you guys find another drummer somewhere?"
"I dont know." We all reached to Gilman. We didn't do anything but watch people perform music. Mike did notice this one guy who was about their age. Mike went up to him.
"Hey, you in a band?" The boy shook his head.
"No." Mike was thinking about this guy being in their band.
"Ok what's your name?"
"Matt." Mike brought Matt over to Billie's and told him he plays the drums. Matt agreed to try it out. So Mike and Billie took Matt to try out a couple songs. I watched them. Matt was pretty good. Mike and Billie were happy with their new drummer.
A week passed. Billie, Mike and Matt were ready for their first gig at Gilman. Matt did pretty good. Yeah it was all good...but it wasn't after the gig. Matt came up to Billie and mike and handed them their drumsticks. "Hey Billie you guys are good musicians but I'm not good enough for your band. I know someone better than me." Billie looked at Mike blankly.
"Ok who?" Matt wrote a name down on a piece of paper.
"He comes here on Friday nights. He is in a band but I think he wants to be in a band of his own age," Matt walked away.
"God damnit we have really bad luck," Billie said to me and Mike. Billie was desperate to get a drummer. He looked at the piece of paper.
"Ok well this guy can't be too bad. What's today?" Mike asked.
"Uh its Thursday." Billie was anxious to meet the new drummer to see if he was any good. Billie walked back to Emily. "I will come and get you tomorrow around 5 ok?" I smiled and gave him one more hug. Meeting this new drummer was going to interesting. Mike had told me he recognized the name...
