Lost For Words, chapter 15
‘Just Mike. How come?’, he asked. He knew who the voice was, so he kept the conversation going.
‘Okay, listen, don’t say my name at all, but I want you to come down to where I am. I need to see you’,
Tre’s eyes lit up, and Mike noticed. He started conversation.
‘Who’s on the phone?’, Mike asked.
‘Chris and his at a ah strip club’, Tre made up, hoping it would pass off. Mike rolled his eyes.
‘Typical for you to get happy over something like that’, he said before focusing eyes on the TV again.
‘Listen, just walk to the park, I’m sitting on the swing set’, the voice told him, before hanging up. Tre put the phone in his pocket and got up walking for the door.
‘Where you going?’, asked Mike, curiously. Tre looked at him.
‘Strip club’, he replied before walking out of the house.
-At the Park-
Tre walked to where the swing set was. There as he was told, was the person waiting for him. He walked up behind them and put his arms around them.
‘Why’d you leave? Everyone’s been worried about you’, he asked, putting his head down closer to her.
‘I didn’t think anyone would wanna see me again’, Steph told him, tears starting to run down her face. Tre came round infront of her and knelt down so he could see her. He brushed away the hair from her face.
‘Why wouldn’t we want to see you?’, he asked her, holding her hand whilst rubbing it every so often.
‘Cause......I’ve ruined everything for everyone. Billie probably hates me, and Mike probably doesn’t want to be related to me ever again’, she whimpered, ‘But, I..I realized something and I have to tell you all’, she finished. Tre looked at her again, giving her a sign to keep on going. She lent forward and put her arms around him, giving him an affectionate hug.
‘Tre, I’ve taken you for granted. You’re the friend that’s always there for me and......well sometimes I act as if you don’t even exist. I’m really sorry’, she told him, starting to cry again. Tre rubbed her back softly and smiled. She had come to her senses and he knew she was going to come home.
‘Listen girly its alright. I’ve been a jerk lately towards you. I’m sorry’, he told her, pushing her hair behind her ears. Steph smiled weakly, before she continued.
‘Its just, I don’t know if I should tell Mikey or Billie. What if they hate me?’, she asked, teary eyed again.
‘They don’t hate you. They love you, and well you should tell them’, he said to her, giving her the affection she needed. They sat in silence for a further moment.
‘You want me to take you home?’, he asked her, standing up, ‘Come on, I’ll even carry you. Just like old times’, he told her. Steph smiled and stood up, letting Tre pick her up. She put her arms around him again.
‘Thanks Tre’, she whispered, before they started walking off. Slowly Steph started falling asleep.
‘Its alright’, he whispered to her as they started, walking towards the house.
-Earlier at the House *before Tre left*-
Mike’s phone started ringing in his pocket.
‘Hello?’, he answered. The voice on the other line, started to talk with him.
‘Wow, seriously. Yeah sure just let me ask BJ’, he said, running up the stairs. He ran into his sister’s bedroom. Billie was there as he had expected, lying down on the bed. Mike ran up to him, and sat down beside him.
‘Mate I have the best news, there’s this guy on the phone from Livermore’s place, saying he wants us to come up for a demo recording. Plane leaves tomorrow, you think your up for it’, Mike said ecstatically. Billie sat up. For a moment his thoughts that were previously stuck in his mind wiped out.
‘Demo recording?’, he asked curiously.
‘YEAH! WE GONNA GO?’, Mike screamed jumping in his seat. Billie thought for a moment.
‘Yeah, if you can drug me up enough’, he said, before he laid back down. Mike started speaking to the guy on the phone again, before walking out the room, to get the details.
-Steph and Tre arrive-
‘We’re here’, Tre told her softly waking her up. Steph rubbed her eyes before Tre let her feet touch the ground.
‘Your comfy’, she told him giggling as she stood up properly. Tre kept her in his arms. As long as anyone wasn’t around it was fine, and he didn’t feel guilty.
‘No your soft, and your warm..’, he told her, giving her attention to her good points. Steph didn’t take any notice of it.
‘Tre’, she told him quietly. Almost seductively.
‘Yeah’, he replied, hoping to hear what he wanted.
‘Thanks for always being there for me’, she told him, getting out of his grip. She walked up the stairs and entered the house. Tre followed her.
‘You should head of to bed. There’s something special tomorrow’, he told her. Steph smiled.
‘Yeah I will, once I make sure that everyone alright’, she told him, walking up the stairs to the bedrooms.
‘Mike, you in there?’, she asked, knocking on her brothers door. Mike opened his door, and at the site of his sister, threw her arms around her.
‘Why did you leave?’, he asked, with tears, coming to his eyes. Steph held herself close to him for as long as possible. This was the closest they had been since the death of their parents.
‘I thought…no I have to tell you something’, she said, looking up into him. He looked at her again letting her continue.
‘Mike, I’ve been so horrible the last couple of years, but you’ve never given up on me. You’ve mentored me and taken care of me, and I love you, so much. You’re the best brother I could ever have’, Steph told him crying.
‘Steph, you’re the best sister I could have. Without you around I swear I wouldn’t be here’, he told her, kissing her on the forehead. They hugged for a little longer before eventually letting go. Mike started to mentor her again.
‘You should go talk to Billie. He’s been worried about you. He hasn’t been the same lately’, Mike told her, walking her to the door.
‘I’m going to, is he in his room’, Steph asked, curiously smiling at her brothers caring skills once again.
‘His in yours, has been for the last 3 days’, he told her. Mike and Steph exchanged one last hug, before Steph left him to sleep.
She walked up to her bedroom and opened the door slowly, the creak came from its hinges as usual.
‘Billie……’, she called, before walking in…
‘Okay, listen, don’t say my name at all, but I want you to come down to where I am. I need to see you’,
