Tré's Magical Adventure, chapter 10

"I hear there is a good Toys 'R' Us store down the road," said Tré, as they walked down the street.

"You want to go drinking in a fucking toy store?" asked Mary slightly annoyed.

"Well do you want to go to dinner instead then?" asked Tré thinking quickly.
"Yeah sure" said Mary cheerily.
"Know anywhere good?" she asked looking around in awe.

"There is probably somewhere nice in little Italy," said Tré signalling a taxi. One quickly pulled in beside them. Tré held the door open and Mary climbed in. Tré followed her inside banging his head for the third time that day on the door.
"Where to?" asked the driver gruffly from the front seat of the car.
"Little Italy" replied Tré.

The taxi started and turned round a corner. When they reached their destination Tré clambered out of the taxi and handed a wad of cash to the driver.

"This place looks nice," exclaimed Mary pointing to a restaurant with glass doors.
"Sure why not?" muttered Tre and he followed her inside.
"Table for two is it?" asked a woman dressed in black. She led them to a table near the back of the restaurant.

Tré pulled the seat out for Mary. She sat down and Tré wandered around the table to his seat. On his way around he tripped over his untied laces and fell on top of her. Tré laughed nervously. "Eh... .sorry." he apologised.
"Um... that's okaym," she muttered in reply.

Tré slowly got off her lap and sat down carefully in his chair. Mary picked up her menu. Tré did the same. As he was picking up the menu he knocked over the vase of flowers. Water dribbled over the table cloth.
"Oh fuck," said Tré whacking his forehead, "I am such and idiot." He grabbed his napkin and began dabbing carelessly at the wet table cloth. But instead of mopping up the water he knocked over the wine glasses, the complimentary bread basket and the now empty vase which Mary had turned up right seconds before.

A waitress hurried over to help. "Here I'll do it," she said taking the cloth off Tré. "No it's fine I'll do it." muttered Tré grabbing the napkin off her.
"Tré please," whispered Mary glancing at the other people in the restaurant. At this point everyone in the restaurant was looking in their direction, whispering and pointing. Mary bowed her head and covered her forehead with her hand. She felt ashamed and was trying to pretend that she didn't know Tré. The waitress mopped up the remaining water and took their order.

The waitress came back ten minutes later and plonked a large pizza in front of Tré. Then she placed Mary's bowl of pasta in front of her. Tré immediately began stuffing his face. Mary carefully placed her napkin on her lap. Then began delicately eating her pasta.
"Good food" said Tré with a mouthful of food.
"Tré please don't talk with your mouthful," she said giving Tré a look of disgust.
"Why?" asked Tré, a mushroom fell out of his mouth.
Mary winced, "Because Tré it is gross," she said exaggerating his name. She returned to her meal.

When they both had finished their dinner Tré asked a waitress for the bill. "Here you go." said Tré handing the waitress his credit card.
"Tré I'll pay half, I feel bad.," Mary said getting out her purse.
"No it's fine," said Tré.
"I have kind of been really annoying and embarrassing tonight. And I have been really rude to you these past few days. I want to make it up to you."
"So who is going to pay?" asked the waitress slightly impatient. "
I gave you my card, God" said Tré.

When she gave him the card back they left the restaurant. Mary stood at the entrance and took a deep breath of the New York air. "It's beautiful here," she said quietly.
"Ya... um so do want to go drinking in a toy store?" replied Tré spotting a liquor store.
"It will be closed by now," pointed out Mary.
"No it will trust me," he said grabbing her wrist and pulling her across the road.
"What the... " said Mary.
"We need alcohol to go drinking," he reminded her.

They wandered into the shop. Tré looked around. "Umm... . So many kinds." he muttered to himself. Mary grabbed three bottles off the nearest shelf.
"This will do," she said and began walking up to the counter.
"What is it? It better be good," asked Tré rushing after her. "It won't matter because we will be too drunk to care," she said handing over some money.

"Oh right ya," said Tré following her like a little kid as she left the store. "Can we go to the toy store now?" asked Tré.
"Ya calm down, you'll get over excited and that will NOT be good," she answered.

She signalled a taxi and it pulled up within seconds. "This is what I love about New York," she said climbing into the back. Tré followed her being careful not to bang his head. When they got out at Toys 'R' Us they realized that it was locked.

"See told ya," gloated Mary.
