And He Just Left, chapter 5
*Nobody's POV*
When Mike left to go somewhere, Megan tried to have fun with her friends, but it wasn't happening. She wanted Mike, she needed Mike. She loved him, but he doesn't love her. He said he did, but she didn't think he did. And the way he was looking at Leon, like 'go ahead and have her I don't want her' look. Fine, if that's the way he wants it, then he's got it. Megan has always had a crush on Leon, and he has always had a crush on her. But she told him she didn't want to ruin their friendship by going out with each other and the risk of breaking up.
She sighed.
"Megan?" a voice said. She jumped.
"Yea?"
"We're going to go to the store. We'll be back later." Leon said, getting up.
"Okay." The other three went up stairs to get their stuff and Megan went outside to get the mail. She was standing by the mail box and didn't see the car come barreling down the street, the driver drunk.
She was looking through a magazine with a picture of her father on the front when she felt herself get hurled through the air by a metal force. She looked up dazed and saw a truck plowed into the tree in her yard. The truck had hit her. She couldn't move anything. She felt dizzy, then black took over.
*INSIDE THE HOUSE*
"Oh my God!" Shayne yelled as she looked out the window. She had just saw her best friend get plowed into by a truck.
Leon and Kyle ran in. "What?" Leon asked. Shayne couldn't say anything as tears poured down her face, but she pointed out the window. Leon looked at her then went over by the window, and saw Megan. His face went deathly pale and Kyle looked out too, his mouth dropping opena dn eyes going wide. "Go get her dad." Leon whispered. Shayne nodded and ran out of the room.
"Mr. Armstrong! Mr. Armstrong!" she yelled in the middle of the hall. Billie, Tre and Adie came rushing up the stairs and Adie took the crying girl's shoulders.
"What, what is it?" Billie asked.
"Meagn-outside-truck-"she rasped through tears before running down the stairs. Billie looked at his wife before following her.
Shayne opened the door and saw smole coming from the truck. Billie went pale, his eyes wide when he saw the truck. Leon and Kyle came to a halt beside Shayne. Leon stepped forwards and ran through the smoke, Billie following close behind.
They got to the street and Billie looked around for a minute before he saw Leon go the other way. He started that way and stopped dead in his tracks. Tears came out hard and fast when he saw Megan sprawled on the road. Leon lent down beside her as Billie slowly walked over.
Leon checked her breath, which was ragged and stopped every 5 seconds and her pulse. It was deathly weak. "Her pulse. It's almost gone," he rasped through his own tears.
Billie got over by her and knelt down and looked at her face. He was sobbing now. He picked up her head carefully and put it in his lap. He stroked her soft brown her and hears sirens in the distance, coming this way. Someone has called 9-1-1.
Tre, Adie, Kyle and Shayne stood there, all tearing up. Adie looked at her husband weeping over his beloved daughter. He would die if she did. She's been back in his life for three years and he loves her so much. He couldn't lose her now.
Billie was talking to her. "Please, Megan. Please hold on. I love you so much honey. I couldn't live without you. You, and Adie and your brothers are my world. Your my little girl. I can't lose you now that I just found you. Please," he cried into her hair.
"Daddy?" he heard. He looked up at her face and saw her eyes in slits.
"Oh, honey. Oh, baby. Hold on. Please. I love you," he said. He saw the ambulance coming down the road.
"I love you daddy," she said. She started coughing and blood dribbled down her chin onto her already bloody shirt. Her blood had already soaked through Billie's clothes too.
"Oh honey," her eyes closed as black moved in again. "No! Baby stay awake please!" Billie pleaded.
He felt a strong hand on his shoulder. He looked up into a paramedics face and felt Megan being lifted out of his lap.
"No-" he started but was pulled up by the paramedic.
"We're taking her. Come if you wanna, but we have to go if you want her to live," the paramedic said gently.
Billie nodded and got in the ambulance. The paramedics worked hard at getting her heart beating right again. Billie held her hand tight. "Come on baby. Please," was all he could say before breaking down again. That's all he did on the rest of the way to the hospital.
*AT THE STRIP CLUB*
*Mike's POV*
I sighed and sat down next to the stage where women where dancing. I was wrong. This doesn't make me feel better.
I was there about an hour when I got a call. It was Tre.
"Hi Mike. Listen. We're at the hospital." I choked on my beer.
"What? Why?" I said.
"Megan," he said. My breath caught. Oh God no.
"What-what happened to her?" I said quietly as tears threatened their way to the surface and ripped down my face.
He sighed. "She was getting the mail and a drunk guy in a truck came barreling through and hit her the ran into a tree."
"How-how is she?" My heart was beating fast. She has to be okay. She has to. She can't die. It'd kill Billie. It'd kill me. She has to live. If, no when, she gets better, I'm telling her I don't care what Billie says and I'm gonna go out with her.
Tre sighed again. "Well-" he said.
"Tre tell me God dammit." I said, getting emotional. I can't handle this. He probably think I'm just a concerned and loving uncle. But I love her with all my heart and soul, not as an uncle.
He sighed. "They said they're doing everything. She's in a coma. They're no sure if she's gonna wake up. If she's gonna live. If she's in a coma for two months, their gonna pull the plug," he said and I heard tears threaten to break free in his voice.
I was numb. I couldn't talk, I couldn't think about anything but her. "I'll be right there." I said and hung up.
I numbly stood up and walked to my BMW. I sat in the seat and wept. I sat there until most of it was out before I went down to the hospital.
*Billie's POV*
This can't be happening. This can't be happening. This can't be happening. I was pacing around the waiting room, waiting for the doctors to tell me better news. That she woke up and is gonna be okay. My little girl. Tears broke again and I swaid on my feet. I felt a soft hand pull at mine and saw Adie pulling me down beside her. I buried my head in her shoulders and let my tears soak her shirt as she stroked my hair.
I love Megan so much. I lost her for twelve years, and finally got her back. Now she might get taken away again, this time for good. I let out a loud sob into Adie's neck and held onto her tight, afraid that the same thing was gonna happen and she would leave me.
No news and it's been an hour. Tre called Mike and he's on his way.
I can't believe Megan. On her sixteenth birthday, she came down here and signed this thing that if anything like this was to happen that she needed life support, that they would give her two months then they could pull the plugs. They told me that even though I'm her father, I can't do anything to change it cause she was old enough to do that. I argued that they we're not gonna kill my daughter, but they said that it's her wishes not to be hooked to a machine.
Then, Mike ran in. His face was tear streaked, his eyes dull but wild. "Any news?" he said.
I shook my head. He fell into a seat. "I didn't know you cared about her so much." I said, surprised at how he was acting.
"Duh. I love her Billie," he said quietly, his gaze on the floor.
I shrugged. Then the doctor came up. I shot up. "How is she? Is she awake? Can I see her?" I asked.
The doctor sighed and I knew it wasn't good. "She's stable. That's the only good news I have. She had major head trama so her brain isn't functioning normaly, and she can't breath on her own and is hooked to a reporter. Her heart is beating a little irregular, but that should go away soon. She's on life support and I'm sorry to say that's the only think keeping her alive," the doctor sighed again and I felt my body go numb and I knew one thing that I didn't want to admit. She's gonna die. The doctor told me the room number and I barily acknowledge Adie leading me down the hall and to the room.
I opened the door and stopped. I held in my gasp. Megan was pale. Ghostly pale and her head was bandaged. She had a few cuts, but other than that she looked like she was sleeping. All the trama was going on inside.
She still looked beautiful. Her hair was clean and fanned out around her face and her eyes where closed but I knew they where bright green. She looked like an angel.
I finally was able to move my legs and I sat in the chair by her bed heavily. I took her hand in my own and kissed it. I looked at her innocent face and tears came up. "Megan, please. If you can hear me, get better. Wake up. I love you and I need you here with me. I can't live without you. I now know what it's like to live with and without you and I know I was happier towards everyone with you here." I sniffed. "Please baby. Your my little girl and always will be. I love you." I was able to get out before I started sobbing again.
I cried a long time before I felt myself drift off to sleep, right next to my baby girl.
