"I've Done Twins", chapter 41
2 A.M. That Morning...
An ear shattering cry pierced through the Armstrong house. Billie shoved his pillow over his head and moaned.
"It's your turn," He groaned to Courtney.
"Nice try, buddy, it's yours."
"Uhh," Billie groaned, throwing his feet over the bed and rubbing his eyes. "I hate you, Courtney," He moaned.
"Tell me tomorrow when I actually care," She moaned sleepily. "Go get Ryan."
"He's YOUR nephew," Billie protested. "I'm not related to him in anyway."
"Well... well shut up and do it."
Billie came into Ryan's 'room' (AKA - Jakob's room with a portable fold out crib in it), with a bottle in hand, and picked up the crying baby.
"Shut up, kid," He said gently, with a tired smile. "You're waking up the whole neighbourhood."
Ryan took the bottle, he obviously didn't care. Billie sighed and sat down on his son's bed, holding Ryan. He wiped the tears of Ryan's cheek and looked around.
"What the fuck am I supposed to do to entertain myself until you fall asleep again?" He asked, smiling down at Ryan.
He sighed and remembered back to when Jakob and Joseph were little. When he was with Adie. That's when the wounds opened. She left him for 'spending too much time on tour, in the studio, with the his friends...etc etc. He used to spend ages in with his kids, singing them to sleep. When he ran out of suitable songs - he made something up off the top of his head.
Billie licked his lips and scanned his list of songs inside his head. The first thing that popped into his head was 'In My Life' by The Beatles. His all time favourite Beatles song.
Well... he thought, it's either that or Macy's Day Parade.
"There are places I'll remember all my life...though some have changed, some forever not for better...some have gone and some remain...all these places have their moments, with lovers and friends, some are dead and some are living, in my life...I've loved them all...but of all these friends and lovers, there is no one compares with you...and these memories lose their meaning... "
Another voice joined in, "When I think of love...as something new." He looked up and saw Courtney grinning at him. "Though I know I'll never lose affection for the people and things that went before...and I know I'll often stop and think about them...but in my life...I've loved you more... "
Courtney stopped and Billie finished the song on his own. Ryan was asleep when he'd finished. Billie took the empty bottle and put Ryan back into the crib.
"Night, Little Man," Billie smiled gently, "Seeya in another couple of hours."
Courtney smiled and took Billie's hand. "Come on, that bed is awfully lonely without you there."
Billie grinned. "If you're implying what I think you are - you can stop. I'm too tired, Courts."
"That'll be a first, but I wasn't implying that at all. Think you could sing me back to sleep?"
"I was thinking you could sing ME back to sleep," Billie chuckled, falling onto the bed with Courtney in his arms. She giggled and shook her head.
"I'll sound like a dying cat."
"I know," Billie joked, knowing perfectly well that her voice was quite good and soothing. "Go 'head."
"Does it have to be a Beatles song?" She asked.
"No, not necessarily."
"Oh, good. I'll sing Brittney Spears."
"I'll kill you, if you do," He laughed.
Courtney thought for a song. Then suddenly, Chris Cheney popped into her head. The Living End.
"OK, here's some Aussie stuff then... "
"God, strike me down now," Billie teased. Courtney slapped his chest. She rolled out of his arms and onto her own side. Billie flipped over and put his head on her chest. Courtney tried to remember the tune and the words. She took a breath and calmed her nerves - she was never a fan of singing in front of people.
"Well I've been going out of my head
Since I met you
But you drive me up the wall it seems
What more can I do?
You're just no good for me
So lock me up and throw away the key
Cause I've just about had all
I can take from you
Well I've been going out of my head
Since I found you
But you've turned out to be poison
Now I'm feeling blue
But everything will be alright
If I can keep you outta sight
Six feet under, where no one will have a clue
So what? - You never even give me one shot
I don't wanna rain on your parade
You're really somethin'
I'm nearly jumpin'
Well I've been going outta my head
Since I met you... "
Billie smiled when she stopped and snuggled his cheek into her chest, his arm tightening around her. She smiled and ran her fingers through his hair.
"Who sings that?" He asked.
"The Living End," She grinned.
"Would you ever sing that to Chris?" He asked curiously.
"No," Courtney murmured. "I'd sing What Would You Do? to Chris," She giggled. Billie didn't get it but shrugged.
"I'll read the lyrics," He murmured.
"I'll write them down for you tomorrow," She smiled. "Night, Hun."
"Night, Courts...I love you."
"Good."
"Ahem?" He coughed innocently.
Courtney sighed jokingly and smiled. "I love you, too."
The Next Morning...
Tre woke up, rubbed his tired eyes and got out of bed. Slowly, he gathered his head together and grinned. Rushing downstairs, he grabbed his phone and dialled Mike's number.
"Hello?" Mike's voice came from the other line.
"Busy?" Tre grinned.
"Yes," He snapped impatiently. "Can I help you?"
"I'm sure Leah's already doing that..." He cackled.
"Shut up."
"I'm just curious on the details of last night. How was it? I'm sure you had a lotta Love Juice stored inside you."
"I'd appreciate if you never said Love Juice again. I'll call you later."
"Oh, fuck. Are you in bed RIGHT now?"
"Do I HAVE to answer that?" It was obvious Mike was grinning.
"FUCK YES YOU DO!" Tre whooped, getting extremely excited.
"Maaaybe."
"OK! GOOD! Leave the phone right next to the bedside table - I'll listen."
"Goodbye, Tre," Mike snapped, hanging up.
Tre quickly pressed the redial button. Mike picked up again. "TRE! QUIT IT!"
And he hung up again. Tre pressed the redial button - again.
Except, instead of Mike's ticked off voice, Tre heard someone else.
"I'm sorry, this phone is either disconnected or engaged. Please re-try later, or check the number and try again... "
At the Dirnt place, Mike waved the unplugged phone line around, grinning, before tossing it to the side and going back under the sheets with Leah.
"Pure genius," She murmured, pulling the Mike Dirnt she missed having so much down onto her.
"Where's the baby... ?"
"Billie, Ryan's probably thinking how much of a dick you look like now. Give it up," Courtney giggled, watching Billie - with Ryan on his lap, playing peek-a-boo.
"Shut up. I've had two kids and they loved it. Actually...I don't think Jakob's grown out of it yet."
"Another thing about your kids - they'll probably need therapy when they're older."
Billie poked his tongue out. "Well lets see YOU have kids and see how well THEY turn out."
Courtney shrugged. "Maybe when I get married."
"Not dropping hints are you?" Billie laughed, hiding his face behind his hands.
"Not to you... " She grinned. "But just a reminder - Chris will always be around."
"Peek-a-boo!" Billie cooed, pressing his forehead against Ryan's. Ryan giggled, ever so cutely. "Chris is married, Courtney."
"Yes...but I'm seductively sexy, aren't I?"
"I'M the only person who would find a cute girl-next-door person like you sexy," Billie rolled his eyes. "So consider yourself lucky."
Courtney glared at him. "Are you saying I'm homely looking?"
"Er...no," Billie held Ryan up as a body guard. "Ryan said it."
"Be right back," Courtney said, jumping up.
A few minutes later, Courtney pranced into the lounge room in a short white and black ruffled mini skirt, a white boob-tube, loads of make up, high heeled black shoes and fish net stockings.
"You want me to look trampy and fancy like this?"
Billie stared, even Ryan looked a little shocked.
"I didn't know you ever HAD clothes like that," Billie gasped. "You look...awful with that make up on."
"Oh yes, but at least I'm not unpretentious and homely!" She snapped. "Not boring old Courtney Prescott anymore, am I?"
"Courtney..." Billie sighed, "Go put your normal clothes back on and wipe that shit off your face."
"Be grateful I don't always dress like this," She said, warningly. "The homely, plain, normal Courtney is much better than Trampy Courtney."
Billie rolled his eyes and kissed Ryan's forehead. "For your sake...I hope you grow up gay."
Three Weeks Later...
Courtney dropped the knife to the floor and realised what she had, quite possibly, done to Billie. The knife landed on the floor and tears ran from her cheeks.
This isn't happening...
Billie laid, motionlessly, on the couch, on his stomach. His hand was swinging lifelessly and his leg was bent, nearly coming off the couch.
There was a knock at the door. Courtney HAD to get back into normal mode...
This isn't happening...
Mike snuck up behind Leah and kissed her neck as she poured milk into her coffee.
"Whoa, fuck," She laughed. "You scared the shit outta me."
Tre-Tre, the overly obese cat was twirling himself around their legs and Ryan was in the lounge room.
"I've got something for you..."
"REOW!" Tre-Tre screeched from underneath them. Leah shot around and saw Ryan sitting behind Tre-Tre, with the cat's tail in his chubby little fingers.
"Ryan," Leah gasped. "How the hell did you get there?"
Mike picked up the cat and Leah grabbed Ryan.
"Did you bring him in?" Leah asked, kissing Ryan's cheek.
"No, I left him in the lounge room..." They both looked utterly confused.
Leah put Ryan on the floor again and walked a few steps away. She got down on her knees and tapped her thighs.
"Come here, honey. Come to Mummy... "
Ryan moved from his butt to onto his knees...and started crawling.
"Look! Look! He's crawling!" Leah gasped. "Ah! Look at him go!"
Mike had the biggest most stupidest grin on his face watching Ryan crawl over to his mother. Once he reached Leah, he turned and plonked himself down on his ass.
"You lazy little baby," Leah giggled, taking Ryan and kissing his cheeks. "About time you started crawling."
Mike put a struggling Tre-Tre down and sat on the floor with Leah and Ryan. "Let's have crawling races," He laughed. "Me verses Ryan."
"Ooh, I'll play the winner."
Courtney opened the door, her eyes as dry as she could get them.
Tre was standing there, smiling, until he noticed tears running down her cheeks.
"Courts? What's the matter?"
"Tre," She cried, throwing herself into his arms. "I've done something terrible."
"What?" Tre asked, hugging her oddly as she cried onto his chest.
"I...I..."
Tre took her inside, and noticed the knife lying on the floor and then Billie lying on the couch, completely still.
"YOU KILLED BILLIE?!"
Courtney looked up, stunned. "Shut up, Tre. He's sleeping... "
Tre poked Billie's head. She raised his arm and shooed the hand away, frowning and moaning.
"Fuck, don't DO that to me," Tre laughed. "I saw the knife and...phew! So, what's the matter?"
"Can we take this somewhere else?"
"Wanna grab a coffee?" Tre asked. "I came to grab some lyrics and stuff off Billie."
Courtney nodded. "The basement."
"Want me to come with you?" Tre asked looking over his coffee.
"Maybe," She murmured. "Do you wanna come?"
"I haven't seen one in a while," He grinned. "Can I?"
"If you want," She shrugged. "C'mon, let's go now. I need to know now."
They picked up their coffees and walked out. "Don't be scared," Tre whispered to her. "Everything'll be fine."
"That's easy for you to say," Courtney murmured, "You're not the one who would break it to Billie."
"Billie would stand by you," Tre said. "I'm sure of it."
"How?" She looked up into his eyes. "How can you be sure of it?"
"Trust me," Tre smiled at her. "I know Billie. And he'll be just dandy if this is...if this is happening."
"You said you had something for me?" Leah grinned, looking up from Ryan.
"Oh, well...it's just a piece of news, actually," Mike said. "Still wanna know?"
"Was I ever one to turn down a juicy piece of gossip?" She said, standing up, sauntering over and plonking herself on Mike's lap. He wrapped his hands around her stomach and kissing her lips.
"Billie woke up from this nap, and he found a knife on the floor..."
Leah's frowned. "What?"
"Yeah. He was really confused at first but he found a note in the kitchen saying that Courtney went out for a while. He went to throw the note in the bin and he found a box that had been stabbed...repeatedly... "
Leah frowned a little more. "And... ?"
"And it was a pregnancy test box. AND, to put the icing on the cake...it was obviously...Courtney's."
Leah's face went blank with shock. Slowly, a grin formed and she started to giggle.
"Serious? Who told you this?" She asked.
"Billie," Mike smiled. "He's really confused. And Courtney won't answer her cell."
Leah slid off Mike's lap and pondered that. "She couldn't be pregnant. She said she wasn't gonna do that until she was married..."
"She also said she wouldn't have sex until she was married," Mike added.
"No she didn't," Leah protested. "I told her to wait until she was married but she was just waiting for the right person."
Mike shrugged. "She might be pregnant then."
Leah looked over and grinned. "My little sister...pregnant!"
"She isn't your little sister," Mike laughed. "She's your twin sister."
"Twin shmin," She shrugged. "As long as she's youngest by seven minutes - she's my LITTLE sister."
An ear shattering cry pierced through the Armstrong house. Billie shoved his pillow over his head and moaned.
"It's your turn," He groaned to Courtney.
"Nice try, buddy, it's yours."
