Billie And His Ghosts, chapter 1

I silently watched him set his things up in my room. He put his guitar in the corner, and set two pictures on his bedside table, one of his band at a gig and one of him and his father when he was about 7. He had just moved in today, and he was finishing up setting his stuff out the way he wanted it. He then sat next to me and began crying. I wanted so much to wrap my arms around him and whisper in his ear that he would be okay, but I couldn't. Not yet. I couldn't reveal myself until he was ready. You see, he was 15 year old Billie Joe Armstrong, and I am nothing but a ghost, pun intended, of a year passed.

I should introduce myself. I am Payton Andrea Lincoln. I'm about 5'3", and I have dark brown eyes, tan skin, and dark brown hair that I've dyed over and over. When I died, it was a few inches past my shoulders and it had electric green streaks running through it. I also have three tattoos. One is of a bleeding rose on the outside of my right calf, another is of my mothers name on my wrist, and the last is a string of barbed wire round my belly button.

Now, most people think that ghosts are always out to get you, but that's not true. Ghosts have different reasons to be on earth. Most are here because they have unfinished buisness, some are here because God has sent them back with a message, and a few, like me, are here to find out why they are here.

A few minutes after Billie stopped crying, his mother called him down for dinner and I decided to "beam-up" and talk to the big man upstairs. After waiting for 20 minutes while Gabriel got God, I finally was able to walk into his office.

"Payton, how are you?" He asked, as soon as I walked in. As I had predicted, Gabe hadn't told God why I was here to see Him. "Ummm... A little confused." I said, looking at my lap.

"And why is that?" He asked me, folding his hands. "Well, before you sent me back to earth, you told me that you would send me the one person that could send me to my destiny. Is that Billie Joe?" I said, rather quickly. "I cannot tell you. Only you can tell."

I looked at my feet as I got up to leave, frustrated, but I wouldn't let it show. As I reached for the door handle, I heard God say "The only thing I can tell you Payton, is that old friendships will be rekindled and broken, and love will be the strongest weapon you have. Good luck, Payton."

I materialized back in my, well, Billie's room very confused. I only had one good friend when I was alive because my drunken step-father wouldn't let me go out anywhere. I sat on the bed and heard someone coming up the stairs. When Billie opened his door, he stopped dead in the center of the doorway.

"Who are you? How did you get in here?" he half yelled. "What? Who? Me?!" I asked, not believing that he could see me. "Yes you!" he said. It was then that I realized that I had not made myself invisible as I usually did. I quickly became invisible and cursed myself for forgetting.

***

That night as I watched Billie Joe sleep, I realized that he was the one who could help me. I just had to reaveal myself to him in a more idealistic way. I am so screwed...
