Billie And His Ghosts, chapter 5
"This isn't happening" said Mia, sobbing. Billie held her as she dropped to the ground. "Mia, it's really me. Ya know, Payton? Please don't cry..." I said, kneeling down to hug her. She tightly hugged me, crying onto my shoulder. Billie kept comforting her as she repeated how much she had missed me.
15 minutes later, I had been introduced to Tre, his girlfriend Sydney, and Mike (Mr. Gorgeous!).
"Billie! Can you and your friends clean out the attic? I need it for storage!" we all heard Ollie yell from downstairs. "Yea Ma!" Billie yelled back, making a disgusted face. As we made our way up to the attic, I watched Mike...well, his ass. Hey, can you blame me?
"Okay, Syd and Tre take a box, Mike and I will take a box, and Payton and Mia can take a box." said Billie, handing Mike, Tre, and Mia boxes. As we opened the box, Mia's breath caught in her throat. I reached into the box and pulled out Fluffy, my stuffed rabbit given to me by my father, along with pictures of my family and friends.
"As I was looking at a picture of my parents sitting on a park bench, I heard Syd gasp. Tre walked over to me and handed me three newspaper clippings.
"Runaway Suspected Dead," the clipping's name blared. "16 year old Payton Lincoln is suspected dead after her blood-soaked jacket and wallet were found in a local canal. Her step-father, Andrew Williams, reported her missing 8 days ago." That's all I could read aloud before choking on my words. I quickly put that article in the box, not wanting to look at it. I looked at the other article and almost died...no pun intended.
"Runaway Found Dead After 2 Week Search" I read aloud, hearing Mia gasp. "I can't read it." I said, holding the article out, waiting for someone to take it. I felt someone take it out of my hand, and then I heard Mike begin to read. "[i]The body of 16 year old Payton Lincoln was found in a local canal early last Wednesday. Lincoln was reported missing 14 days ago by her step-father. Medical examiners will report the cause of death once an autopsy is preformed. There is no report of any services that will be held."
Mia and Syd were crying while Billie Joe, Tre, and Mike were staring at me with looks of incredible sadness on their faces. "What happened?" asked Mike quietly, looking in my eyes. "A car. All I remember is walking down the road and hearing a car swerve at me. I turned around to see the car, but I couldn't see who was in it. It looked like my step-father's car though. It hit me at 60 miles, at least. I can't remember anything past the impact. Well, until I was at the gates." I said, chuckling at the end.
"What gates?" asked Tre, speaking to me for the first time. "The pearly gates, you boob." said Mia, wiping her nose. We packed the boxes back up and moved them into Billie's room, under his bed. "Billie Joe! I want you to come meet a friend of mine!" we heard Ollie yell. I quickly became invisible, and headed down stairs with everyone else. Seeing as I was watching Mike, I didn't notice the man standing at the bottom of the stairs, and I didn't look up until I heard Mia gasp. I quickly looked at her and then followed her gaze.
"Everyone, I would like you to meet my friend, Andrew Williams. He used to live in this house with his step-daughter before she died."
