Forever Running, chapter 2
I managed to pull myself to my feet and get dressed. I put on my eyeliner, took a deep breath and packed a few things in a bag. I was leaving. Fifteen years old and driven out of my own home. As I threw the last of my things I needed from the bathroom I hurried into my room and got my mobile and what money I had left. There was no point in staying any longer. Sure, I had no where to go or stay no one to turn to but anything would be better than another minute of this. This place is like my worst nightmares, living in fear of being hurt by your own family.
I ran down the stairs. Should I say goodbye to Mum and Dave? No they'd only stop me leaving if they knew before I could decide, I heard a voice that I knew only too well. "Where the hell do you think you're going?"
"Umm... I... I'm," I stuttered. Jamie knew I was leaving. Although he hated me it was obvious he didn't want me to go. Not because he cared but for the simple reason of wanting me to be unhappy.
"You're going aren't you," he said. "AREN'T YOU!" he screamed at me.
"YES! Yes because i've had enough of THIS. E-enough of YOU Jamie." I blurted out. Oh crap now i'd done it. He was going to hit me. What?! He'd walked away? what the hell?!
I wasn't gonna hang around. I made a run for it in case he came back with a knife or gun or something to hurt me with. I ran down the road and around the corner just to get away from the street. Had I done it? had I actually escaped the life of crap i'd had for as long as I can remember? Was it dare I say it... Over? It had been four hours since I escaped that hellhole. There was no way I was going to go back, unless I couldn't do it on my own but so far I was doing fine. I needed to have a drink, clear my mind. I walked into the local cafe and ordered a cup of tea. I sat down and my eyes swelled with tears. I was all alone in the big world. What was I going to do.
I noticed a man on another table looking at me. He came over. "Hi, I'm Billie Joe, umm... Are you okay?" He sounded nice, very polite.
"Umm... yeah I'm okay... I guess," I replied.
"Is this seat taken?" he asked pointing to the seat opposite me.
"Umm... no, you can sit here if you want." I liked him, he was actually good looking as well. Silly as it sounds, he was all I had in this world.
"I didn't catch your name," he said. "So are you gonna tell me it?" he added.
"Sarah," I mumbled. He smiled. The waitress came over with my tea and put it onto the table.
"£2 please love," The waitress said. Billie looked at me and didn't think twice before saying,
"I'll get that Sarah." He smiled. I grinned. Billie gave the money to women who now had her hand out. Billie was really nice he seemed a real gentleman. "So what's happened then, thats if, well, if it's any of my business," he asked, sounding slightly nervous. I wanted to tell him, would he think I was a coward for running away, without even saying goodbye?
"I ran away," I said quietly. He looked worried, not for himself but...for me?
"So where are you heading?" he asked. What should I say, that I ran away without even thinking about that?
"I'll let you know when I know," I laughed half-heartedly.
"Have you got anywhere to stay?" He asked
"Umm...not really," I said in reply. "But whatever happens now I'm not going back there, not in a million years!" I added.
"So why did you run away in the first place?" he questioned. I told him.
"Well I have an older brother who beats me, steals my money, aims his gun at me and holds his knife against my throat."
"Oh," he said simply. "Sorry I asked," he said.
"It's okay, I needed someone to tell," I said
"Haven't you told anyone else, friends, family?"
"Nope," I replied to Billie. He looked as though he was going to say something but stopped himself.
"What?" I asked curiously.
"Well, this is kinda awkward but... Well, do you want to stay with me, you know just until you find someone else to stay with?" he asked. Could I trust him?, I mean, I'd only just met him but he seems so nice and he looks only a few years older than me.
"Well... OK!" I said exitedly.
