The Words That I Can't Say, chapter 16
Leigh woke up the next morning, a Monday. Casey was asleep on the floor. Leigh woke Casey up. Before long they were eating breakfast in Leigh's kitchen. Carrying on a conversation about Frank. He was getting ready for Warped Tour. Staying at home.
She said she was worried about him. She didn't think he was doing well. He wasn't talking to anyone. A text every once in awhile, but that's it.
The phone rang. Leigh went to get it. It was Patrick.
"Hey" he seemed kind of confused.
"Hey what's up?" Leigh tried to be as nice a possible.
"Not much, heading to Boston" He said.
"Did Pete show up ever?" She hated using his name in broad-daylight.
"Yeah not for awhile though, he's glaring at me right now as a matter of fact." he laughed, "Hello Pete, may I help you?"
Mumbles came from the background. Leigh missed those mumbles. Her eyes began to sting.
"Well I got to go, school starts soon and I still have to get dressed." Leigh felt like bursting out into tears. Weird how moments like hearing his mumble made her want to cry.
"Ok I love you" Patrick mumbled
"Bye" Leigh said quickly before hanging up the phone.
Casey and Leigh got dressed quickly. They walked to school. Leigh told Casey about the 'I love you' thing with Patrick.
"Ooooh awkward" she said making a hissing sound in her teeth, "wait does that mean you still want Pete back."
"I guess, I hate what he did to me. I must admit I still do love him." Leigh said.
"Makes sense" said Casey unable to think of what to say.
They arrived at school at 8:00ish. There was a guy already there BEFORE THEM (this never happened no one not even most of the teachers were there before them). He approached Leigh and Casey.
Casey shouted out to him, "You must be new here"
He turned around, "how'd you know?"
"NO ONE is here this early except us" Casey said with a laugh. She walked up to him. He was taller than her but he seemed short compared to a lot of guys at their school, "Hi I'm Casey"
"Michael" he said shaking her hand.
"And this is Leigh," Casey pointed towards her way short friend.
"Nice to meet you." Leigh shook his hand with caution. She didn't have room for ANOTHER guy in her life. This one was all for Casey.
You could see it too. The way she smiled at him. The kind of 'you know you want to laugh/don't eat me' smile. Yep, that's the one.
He was a grade ahead of Leigh and Casey. Casey didn't know where his homeroom was, but they helped him find it anyway. It made them late for there classes though. But in the end it was good for Casey. She needed someone that would talk to her. Frank was in pause mode, like a vegetable without the coma part.
By the time, Casey and Leigh reached 5th period PE; Casey could not stop thinking about Michael.
They even had 1 class together. 3rd period business.
Leigh was excited for Casey. She really was, but she only hoped her love life would be as easy as meeting someone then falling in love with them.
But of course it wasn't.
