Wedding for us, funeral for you (sequel to Breaking up the Band), chapter 2

Just as she was going to return to washing her dishes, the phone rang. Ophelia hurredly picked it up.

"Hello?"

"Is this Lia Nesser?"

Ophelia raised an eyebrow. She hadn't been called Lia in ages.. Since.. Since..

.. When she had pink hair, when she wasn't married to this asshole.. When she thought'd she'd be with him.. When she was on the tour..

Two years ago.

"Hello? You still there?"

"Oh.. What? Yeah, it's Lia.." She said, sitting up on the counter." Who is it?"

"It's Billie."

"Oh.. Oh! It's nice to erm, hear from you.. Billie.." Lia said, raising an eyebrow. Why did he decide to call her now? How did he get the number?..

"Um.. Adie and I are getting hitched."

"That's nice.. I can't go, though."

"Why? If you need a date I can hook you up with Tre or-"

"No. No.. Especially not Tre.. Because of.. those." She said, reffering to a bunch of incidents that happened in the past." Besides," She whispered into the phone," I'm married to a complete asshole."

"Divorce him then! When'd you get married?" Billie said quite loudly.

"Awhile ago.. Two years, actually.. Look, I just can't go, Billie.. Maybe later." She said, hanging up the phone.

"Who're you talking to?" John shouted.

"A freind." Lia muttered, hopping off the counter and putting the phone away.

"A friend, my ass! You're planning on getting away from me, aren't you?"

"I wasn't!" She replied quickly, even though she had been thinking about it.

"Fix me lunch, you little whore. Be thankful I haven't strangled you yet."

Lia could feel pressure build up inside of her. She didn't know it was the phone call from Billie, or if she had just had enough of him. But she was going to scream until she was hoarse. "DON'T CALL ME WHORE, YOU PRICK! YOU FUCKING OLD COOT, YOU CAN'T EVEN GET OFF THE DAMN COUCH WITHOUT HELP! I'M NOT YOUR MAID! AND ANOTHER THING--"

The doorbell rang. Still flaming with anger, Lia stomped over and opened it." Yeah?"

"The paper, ma'am." The deliveryboy said, smiling.

She snatched it out of his hands." Don't call me ma'am, you little ass!" she raged, slamming the door shut.

"I'm leaving." She announced." I'm leaving, and you can keep all my shit. I don't need it."

"You can't just leave, we're mar-"

Lia interrupted him by thrusting a packet of papers into his arms." It's already filled out, just sign it.."

And without further ado, she left the house forever. She didn't know where she was going, but being out of here felt so good.. She felt like her old self again.

Lia smiled to herself. Just then she knew just what to do first.
