Wedding for us, funeral for you (sequel to Breaking up the Band), chapter 4
"Uh..."
"Tre, I guess?"
"Yes! Yes! We are going to have so much fun!"
"Tre..." Billie said, with a warning tone in his voice.
"Oh...right, I'm not supposed to be here, am I?"
After Tre left, Billie continued. "Okay, The wedding is at 4:00 in the afternoon tomarrow at 4100 Cherry St, Berkley. I'm not even bothering to send out invitations. And," he added, "Be careful about the cameras."
"Cameras? What-"
But Billie had already hung up.

One day later, Lia traveled to 4100 Cherry street via taxi. "Here," she said, hastily pouring out the contents of her purse to the taxi driver and overtipping him. She wobbled out of the car on extremely high heels. Tre followed suit.
"Why do I have to wear these?" she said, nodding to Tre as she struggled to step up onto the pavement. Tre nudged her in the back, sending her toppling onto the pavement. But at the last moment, he dragged her upwards and pulled her onto the sidewalk.
"They make you look sexy."
"I don't feel sexy! I feel like a clown on stilts!" she cried, looking at him warily.
"You look sexy to me," he said, putting his hand around her waist.
"Don't," she warned.
"It's a date. We have to look like a couple."
"It's not a date, Billie wanted me to bring someone, and it was you or Mike. I picked you at random," Lia said, scowling.
"No. You know you want me," he said, slicking his hair back with his free hand.
"Please. Now let's just go..." dhe said, grabbing Tre's hand and with great difficulty dragging him torwards the door. She picked up the knocker and knocked three times.
A rather disgruntled Adie in a wedding dress swung the door open. "I don't have time to work with the cameras... I- Oh! Holy shit! Lia, it's you!" she excaimed, throwing her arms around Lia in a death grip, nearly knocking her over. "It's so great to see you! Come in,Come in!" Adie said, ushering both of them in and shutting the door behind them.
"Mike's in the backyard, setting up with Billie. His date's in the bathroom.
You can help if you want," she said, turning to Tre.
"Okay," Tre said, heading out the back door.
"What the hell is up with your feet?" Adie said, looking at Lia's feet. They were swelling up like sausages in her shoes.
"Oh shit," Lia said, looking down. "It's these damn shoes. Tre made me wear them."
"You should sit down, Lia.." Adie said, pointing towards the couch. Gratefully, she took a seat, as the bathroom door opened.
A lady about Lia's age walked out. Her face was framed with rigid black curls, and she looked a bit nervous. Adie turned around to introduce them. "Lia, this is Grace, Mike's date. Grace, this is Lia, my sister and Tre's date." Grace nervously stuck out her hand.
"Don't worry, I won't bite," Lia said, as she struggled to get to her feet and shook Grace's hand quickly before collapsing back on the couch.
"Damn, I'd get some other shoes if I were you," Grace said, looking at Lia's feet.
"Can't...there aren't any," Lia said, frowning.
"Wait," Adie said. "I think there's a pair of Billie's old shoes upstairs. I'll go get them." She ran up the stairs, leaving Lia and Grace alone.
"So, where'd you meet Tre?" Grace said, forcing small talk.
"I didn't meet him... I met the whole band, actually, back during their Slappy tour, I think... Adie was at one of the concert stops, she went on tour with them for a while...so did I, but I left and married an asshole...a few days ago I divorced him, and then I was invited to this wedding," Lia said, just finishing up the last sentence as Adie came down the stairs.
"Shoes," she said, handing Lia a pair of old green converses. Gratefully, Lia unbuckled her heels and slipped them off, replacing them with the converses.
"It's time! Get out here!" Grace headed outside. Lia followed, the huge green converses on her feet clashing horribly with her dress.
"Tre, I guess?"
"Yes! Yes! We are going to have so much fun!"
