Welcome Back To Paradise (Sequel To Don't Look Back In Anger I Heard You Say), chapter 18
The thing we needed to do was go back, back to Applegate. Even seeing the sing saying "Welcome to Applegate was emotional." After four years we were taking another trip down memory lane, for Kirsten.
We passed the hospital where Kirsten was born. "That's where you were born sweetie." Mike said to her. She looked out of the car window in awe. Just looking around the place gave me goose bumps. Everywhere I looked memories came flooding back to me. It was hard for all of us not to hold back the tears.
We passed the squat where the boys and I used to live. Billie gave out a slight laugh. I smiled too. We parked the car on the side of a road. We were at the flat again. The place was for sale.
"Should we go in?" Jay asked. There was an awkward silence.
"Ok." I said trying to break the silence. There was someone to welcome us and said "Feel free to look around." It was all so emotional the whole thing. Mike and Tori took Kirsten around.
"I think I'm having a deja vu." Jay joked I gave a slight laugh. I looked at the place where Abi was shot. I closed my eyes and looked back at what happened that night and felt my eyes warm with tears. I went into Jo's old room. Max went in too.
"Familiar huh?"
"Yep. All of it is, it's all made up of memories."
"I know it's weird."
"Yeah." He left me on my own in there. I thought of Jo's snoring and laughed. I remembered the fluffy green alarm and then I remembered that this was the place where I had my first kiss, with Billie. I started crying. Tre came in. "It's all so emotional isn't it?"
"Yeah."
"Well, the place is for sale." Tre said.
"Nah, we've all got one another, I've got you and the baby."
"Yeah." he said and we kissed.
"Get a room." Jay joked.
"Hey that's my joke!" Tre retaliated.
"Hey, wasn't this where we used to watch Playboy?" Joey asked Max.
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Max said with a crude smile on his face.
"C'mon we better go we've been in here for ages." Tori said.
"Oh..." Joey and Max groaned.
"We've got more important things to do than watch porn," Adie said
"Immature little boys." Jo added.
"Excuse me?" Joey teased.
We left the house, taking one last look. We told the salesman we weren't interested. We all thought about it, it was time to move on, we agreed that we couldn't always be stuck in there.
We moved on the cemetery. Matt took Kirsten by the hand, Tori went too. Billie was about to got when Adie stopped him "leave them, the need some alone time." she said. he nodded in agreement. We watched them as the gentle breeze blew in our faces. It was almost like Abi giving us one last caress on the cheek. I thought about her for a while, we all did.
Mike came back with tears in his eyes, same with Tori and even Kirsten was crying.
We left the cemetery ,silently. It was time to move on. the sun was setting so we thought we better leave there and then. The whole trip was emotional, a blast from the past.
Before leaving we passed the town park. I looked at it and smiled, it was just like the way it was in my dream but this time I knew Matt wasn't going to be there. We went there one last time.Tre was sat next to me as we looked onto the sunset. I leaned against him. "I've chosen a name for the baby," I murmured to Tre.
"You have, what?" he asked.
"Charlotte." I said. He smiled. "Or if it's a boy them maybe Charlie." I laughed, we both laughed.
Billie and Adie were on the park beech, tenderly kissing. Jay was skimming rocks on the pond with Max. And Jo and Joe were talking quietly amongst one another. Mike and Tori were holding hands and Kirsten was with them. Mike and Tori were telling Kirsten how much she would've loved her mum. I agreed.
"C'mon let's go and get some fries." Jay said.
"Yeah." we all agreed as we walked into the distance, making the most of our final day in Applegate. As we walked into the distance we all made the most of the golden summer evening, happy as our lives were no longer lived in fear or paranoia, never to look back in anger again.
