Abandoned At A Green Day Concert, chapter 4

"Go ahead and go home, then," I said with a wink, "I'll find a way back to your house." Nicole looked at me funny, and then she realized what I meant. She waited until the guard looked away for a moment, and then she leaned in and whispered, "Are you sure you want to do that? I mean, you think...?" I assured her that I would work everything out.

I walked with the guard to the tour bus, where the guys were waiting. They greeted me and we talked for a good bit. Then Mike went to take a shower, and I joked to Billie and Tre "I think he just doesn't like me very much! God, first he didn't want to wake up to meet me, and now he's 'got to take a shower'!"

Tre giggled at this and said "Oh, yes he does-" when Billie cut him off with "Shhh!!" I looked at both of them with a lifted eyebrow, and they grinned at me innocently. Tre walked off to get something to drink, and I looked around nervously. "Umm...Billie?" I said. He replied with, "Yes...?"

"Well, I sort of have a problem..." I started, "The security guard wouldn't let my ride back here, and she was getting really tired, so she had to go home... now I kinda don't have a ride."

"Oh..." Billie said. "Well, we can give you a ride... but we have to be in southern Florida tomorrow. I don't know if we can make it up to your house tonight and all the way back down there in time. You'd have to go with us to Florida first."

"I...I don't mind. I'm off work for the next few days, anyway," I said, amazed that Billie was willing to give me a ride. I didn't seriously think it would work, I figured I would probably end up taking a taxi back to Nicole's, which would be expensive. I was willing to take the chance though, and obviously it paid off!

I walked with Billie to the living room-ish area of the bus, and Tre asked why I hadn't left yet. Billie explained the situation, and Tre nodded, an evil grin creeping across his face. "So, where's she gonna sleep?"; Tre asked. "In either yours or Mike's room, and one of you is sleeping out here,"; Billie replied. Tre frowned. "What, don't you trust us?"; Tre asked, "And why won't you give up your room? That's not fair!"; "Because he was kind enough to say that he would take me home,"; I said defending Billie. I didn't expect him to let me sleep in one of their beds. I was happy to get somewhere to sleep at all, really.

Mike walked out of the bathroom in a pair of pajama pants. Wow, he was even more gorgeous without a shirt! He glanced at us, and then did a double-take when he saw me sitting there. "Um, hey!"; he said nervously smiling at me. "Hey..."; I smiled back. Billie once again went through the entire story of why I was there, and Mike's eyes got big. "So, you'll be with us for a couple of days, I take it?"; he asked me. "Yep,"; I said. Mike turned to Tre and said "Tre, you know that means no walking around naked, right?"; Tre frowned at this and grumbled, "Man, just take away all my rights, then. Billie takes away my bed, you take away my freedom to show off my manhood...";

Mike turned to Billie and said, "Well, since Tre's going to be rude, then she can have my bed. I'll take the couch for a couple of nights."; I considered saying that I would be glad to take the couch, but Billie Joe seemed determined to give me a bed to sleep in, so I just thanked him and Mike.

Mike said that he wanted to see what I could do on a bass, so I followed him into his room. "Let me get you some pajama pants,"; Mike said, closing the door behind him. "I know they will be long, but Tre sleeps naked, and Billie just sleeps in his boxers. Do you want a different shirt to sleep in, too?";

"Yes, please,"; I said. Mike handed me a pair of pants and a t-shirt. I went to the bathroom to change, and he took out a guitar. When I got back I remembered that I was used to playing a junior-sized bass, because I'm short, and Mike's bass was going to be a huge difference in size from mine. I told Mike this, and he told me to just try, anyway. I put the strap over my shoulder, and Mike adjusted it for me.

I played the beginning of Longview just to see what it felt like to play a regular sized bass. I had never played one before because I figured I would get laughed at if I couldn't reach the top frets. I was surprised that playing it was easier than I thought. I was even able to reach the very top fret pretty easily. Mike looked at me with approval, and I chuckled and said I probably looked funny with such a big guitar, and my short little arms trying to reach the top frets.

"No, it's just kinda cute seeing you play bass at all,"; Mike replied, "I see you as more of a lead guitarist."; "Yeah, right!"; I laughed. "You should see me try to play an electric! I started out on bass, and that's what I'm sticking with for a while!"; Mike asked me how long I had been playing, and I told him a few years. I continued playing Mike's bass for a few minutes, and he watched silently. I got a bit bored after playing several different songs, and began making up stuff randomly.

I paused for a minute to glance at Mike (not sitting there and gazing at him was hard!), and a look came over him that seemed like he had just had an epiphany. "Do you play with a band right now, or are you looking for one, or...?"; he asked, a look of excitement on his face.

"Well, if you know a band that needs a bassist, I'm certainly open,"; I said. Mike explained that there was a band on Billie's record label who's bass player had just left them, and they were looking for one. I told him I'd consider it because mine and Nicole's band wasn't getting anywhere so far because we still needed a drummer. Mike grinned and said that Tre could be our drummer until we got one, but I said, "No thanks, we don't need a drummer that would constantly walk around naked."; Both of us laughed.

I gave Mike his bass back, and he put it away, and then came and sat on the bed again...
