Why Won't You Love Me?, chapter 3
After having to go back into the house twice, we were finally able to make it to Babies-R-Us. When we got there, the car had barely stopped when Kylie threw it into park and bolted out of the car without even turning the engine off. I took out the key out of the ignition and took my time getting out. I was about to open my door when Kylie whipped it open and practically yanked me out of the car.
"Jeeze, Ky. You're not the one having the kid. Why are you so happy?" I asked, trudging through the snow in the parking lot. "'Cause I love babies! And you're having one! I'm so HAPPY!!!!" she said, skipping and flinging her arms around. I just giggled as we walked into the store. "Warmth!" I said, taking off my thick jacket and tossing it in the cart that Kylie had grabbed. As we walked toward the bedding area Kylie was singing "Do You Believe In Magic" at the top of her lungs, receiving many a weird look from passing customers.
Suddenly, I heard a huge crash as Kylie slammed into another cart. I looked over in shock to see the most gorgeous man I had ever seen...with another woman, presumably his wife. "Oh my God, I am so sorry!" shrieked Kylie, quickly asking the woman if she was okay, seeing as she was as pregnant as me. "I'm so sorry about her, she's so-wait, you're Tre Cool!" I said, covering my mouth. I knew how annoying it could be when people announced a famous person in public seeing as I was the lead singer of a very famous band, The Taste Of Tears.
"And you're Keely Diego! I'm a huge fan!" he said, grabbing me and hugging me. "Hi. I'm Claudia." said Tre's wife, walking over to me and sticking out her hand. "Keely Diego." I said, taking her hand and shaking it. "I know. I'm sorry about your husband." she said, giving me a look of sympathy. "Well, I had better let you get back to your shopping." I said, saying good-bye to them. I had to walk a way to get to Kylie because her ADD had kicked in and she was looking at bedding for the cradle.
Two hours and about $400 later, we were carrying toys, sheets, clothes, bottles, and other baby supplies into my living room. We went up to my room and we both changed into big t-shirts and some of my old yoga pants in order to paint the baby's nursery. After putting 3 coats of pastel green paint on the walls, Kylie and I were lying on the floor of the nursery, too tired to get up.
"So, is it how you expected?" asked Kylie the next day. We both wound up falling asleep on the floor and slept through the night. We spent the whole day setting up the room and we now stood in the doorway, admiring our work. "Well, it's not exactly how I wanted it, but it'll work." I said, smiling. "What's missing?" she asked, turning to me.
"Jeff..." I whispered.
***4 Months Later***
"Welcome home, baby." I said, placing two day old Charles Dartanean in his crib. I smiled, noticing how he had Jeff's eyes, and I hoped that he would have Jeff's hair, seeing as his was always softer and tamer than mine. I began crying, knowing that my son would never know what a wonderful person his father was. "Hon, are you okay?" I heard Jeff's mom, Jennifer say. Her and her husband, Jeff, Sr., were staying at my house for a few months so that I could get back into the recording studio so that we could hopefully get a new album out soon.
"I miss him so much. I don't think that Charlie is ever gonna have a dad..." I sobbed onto Jenn's shoulder. little did I know, he would...and not one whom I would come to expect.
