Whatever Happened To Whatsername?, chapter 1
"And in local news, today a woman died in a fatal car crash on the Hume Highway, now to Tim with sports" said the newsreader so casually, I stared in horror as my mum's car appeared on the television screen.
I ran to my room screaming, and then I stopped and paused for a second, my dad was supposed to be with my mum in that car.
I eventually went to sleep that night, but when I woke up that morning I discovered that my dad was home, asleep on the couch. Something wasn't right, where had dad been? Why did he have a black greasy substance all over his hands? Something between him and mum had happened last night, they had been talking about divorce for ages, I heard mum saying if it wasn't for my brother and I, she would've been gone by now. I made it my mission to discover what had happened.
I got dressed and went down stairs and out the door; I was going to the wreckers to examine the car, and the walk would help clear my head.
When I arrived the gates were locked and a sign read "Closed until further notice", so I climbed up the fence and over the barbed wire, with only a few cuts to my hands, and that's when I saw it, mum's car.
I bit my lip trying to not burst into tears but it wouldn't work, they started streaming down my face, this was what my mother had last seen, this is where she had fallen to her doom.
I crept over to the car, which just looked like a pile of scrap metal, and peered into the wreck, there was blood everywhere, the roof had crumpled in, the motor was in what was left of the passenger cabin, and on the ground I saw the mirror, with our family picture connected to it, spurted with blood.
Tear drops were falling and landing on the picture, I picked it up and held it close to my heart, and started screaming, I put it in my pocket, and then I looked in what I thought was the back seat of the car, to discover my CD case. I managed to get it out, and I opened it up, mum loved all the old Green Day songs, she wasn't like other mothers, my International Superhits! CD was missing. Mum was probably listening to it when she hit the tree, I looked up and remembered what I was doing, and I threw the CD case onto the ground. I got on my hands and knees and looked under the car, now I didn't know much about cars but I could tell something was wrong, maybe it was the fact that there was no break cable, or maybe that it had been coated in some flammable liquid that had left white markings all under the engine.
I lifted my head up from under the car, and as I looked up I saw a dark shadowy figure, I couldn't make out whom it was because the sun was directly behind them, but I knew one thing, they weren't here to sympathise.
I woke up dizzy and with blurry vision, but I could make out that this wasn't my home; I was chained down to the bed. After my vision had recovered I realised who the dark figure was, it was my dad.
"Whatever you saw under that car, you must never tell anyone about it" he said.
"But... but... " he hit my across the face.
"Not a word", he said.
"Ok then" I sadly said.
The world would never find out what really happened that night mum died.
"Your punishment" dad said, "a week chained to this bed". "NO!" I screamed, "You can't do this!"
"Watch me!" dad said, he pulled out a needle and pushed it into my arm and injected some chemical, almost instantly I fell asleep.
