Whatever Happened To Whatsername?, chapter 9

She was lying there, limp and lifeless, there was no blood, but her eyes were all bloodshot and she smelt of marijuana smoke. The stupid woman had got herself stoned, and had passed out. I walked over to the door, to only find that the "bloody" substance on the door was just paint. I called for an ambulance, but the phone line was cut, so I put my mother in the car and drove to the hospital. I wasn't very good at driving, but I still made it there with only a few dents and scratches to the car, and a lot of other peoples' cars.

I went straight to the emergency desk; they got a stretcher and put my mother onto it. They told me to sit in the waiting room while they operated. Eventually they came out and said that I could go in and see her. I got up and went in, but I found that all the cables had been unhooked, and she was gasping for breath. I went out of the room and straight back to the emergency desk.

About an hour later, the doctor came out with a very sad look on his face.
"I'm sorry, your mother has just passed away," he said.
"NO! NO! NO!" I screamed, and ran out the front doors.

I ran down to the lake I used to go there when I was little, and we all lived in the same house and everyone was happy, but that was just a vivid memory now. Nobody cared anymore, life sucked and I had nowhere to go to, not to mention that asshole who was trying to kill me.

The next day I woke up, my bones and joints were all stiff, and it was hard to get up, but eventually I did it. I must have gone to sleep here at the lake. I began the walk home, hoping that all that had happened was just a dream. When I arrived home, there were people from Docs waiting for me.
"We're sorry, but your father passed away last night," the Docs agent said.
"FUCK EVERYTHING, FUCK THE WORLD!" I replied.
"We're really sorry! We have to take you down to the orphanage, we will send someone over to look after you tonight, and then you can pack your bags and we will pick you up tomorrow morning, ok?" the agent said.
"Ok then," I replied, I was in too much of a bad and sad mood to even care what was going to happen anymore.

That night I didn't sleep, I just sat on my bed, I was beyond tears, and no one was there for me anymore, I may as well, just give up on life, but I knew I couldn't do that, I had to stay strong and get through this.
"I'll show you world! I can do this!" I said loudly, "I CAN DO THIS!"

The next morning I packed my bags and the docs agents came and picked me up and dropped me off at the orphanage, great I was an orphan now. The agents were surprised at how casual I was acting; it was only because I couldn't really give a fuck anymore. The people at the admin desk gave me a room number and everything, and showed me around. I unpacked everything and made the room mine. They introduced me to some people, but there was one who stood out, his name was Ben, there was just something inside me that felt like he had been what I had been through, and he understood me.

I spent most of my day in my room, just sitting there, doing nothing. Night soon fell, and I still couldn't sleep. I just sat there, maybe for hours, days, nights, I don't know. Nobody noticed, I was just another person to everyone in the world, I didn't matter, and nobody cared.
