A Berkeley Story, chapter 7

"It is really nice," you said, just to break the silence.
"Yea," Joey said.
"Hey, I know this is gonna be really strange, but the first time I saw you, it felt like I knew you."
"Really?" You asked.
"Yea, I know it sounds silly-"
"No, not actually... It's kinda the same for me."
"Seriously? Well I'm glad you don't think I'm crazy." You both laughed.
"No, I would never think that. Honestly, the only reason I came over and talked to you today was because I wanted to know if I really did know you."
"Oh."
"Yea."
"What do you think now?"
"I still feel like I knew you before today."
"See, me too. Okay, what state are you from?"
"Pennsylvania."
"Well, I'm from here, and I've never been to Pennsylvania... Have you ever been here before?"
"Nope."
"Then how could we know each other?"
"I don't know. Do you have a website that I might have found? Or something on the Internet?"
"Nope."
"Yea, that's just weird. Maybe I just thought you were someone else," after you said this, Joey seemed sad.
"Are you okay?" you asked. "Oh. Yea I'm fine."

You both walked closer to the shoreline. You sat down in the sand and dipped your feet in the water.
"I wish I lived here," you said.
"Well, technically, you do now. I mean, until summer."
"Yea, that's good."
"Yea it is. Are you coming back for a second year?"
"I don't know. You see, my friends and I are here on a one year scholarship, and if we decide to come back, it's going to cost."
"Oh."
"Yea."

You sat beside Joey for a long time... Until it was almost dark, and the sun was just showing over the ocean. The sky was a deep purple. It looked so beautiful.

"Well we better get back to the party."
"Yea," you said. Then, Joey did something that you never would have expected; he grabbed your hand and helped you get up, and then he did not let go.
You didn't want to make a big deal out of it... In fact, you were trying so, so very hard to not smile.

---Joey's Point Of View--- I didn't know what she was going to do when I held her hand... And I didn't even know why I did it. It really seems like I know her, and it doesn't matter how much closer I got to her today, it feels the same. It's a good feeling, though. All I knew was, I didn't want to let go of her hand. ---End of Joey's Point of View---

You and Joey walked along the shore, still holding hands. You went into the dormitory and through the courtyard, and up to Joey's dorm room. You were still holding hands. Actually, you did not notice you were still holding hands until Kayla whispererd 'why are you holding his hand? ' You smiled in cluelessness and joy at the same time. Kayla walked away to go point out to everyone else that you were holding his hand. Gee, thanks Kayla!
