Scattered, chapter 10

Week Later Friday (Tre's)

"So. do we have anything for this CD yet?"
"No. Not that I know of." Tre said.
"I have one song."
"Well bring it next time you come."
"There might not be a next time." Billie stopped.
"What? What the hell are you talking about Billie Joe?" Tre looked at him.
"I might quit."
"What do you mean quit?" Mike asked.
"Quit. Give up, stop, relinquish, leave, complete, through. Quit."
"Why?"
"Cuz I think I should be with Dawna more."
"Did she put you up to this?" Tre asked. "Cuz I can take her out if you'd like. Just say the word and its done." Tre joked.
"No." Billie responded back quickly. But also irritated.
"Fine then. I was just joking. You know when you kid around. I was teasin' ya. A joke."
"Ok whatever. Lets just practice." Billie picked up his guitar and started strumming away.

TWO WEEKS LATER( Billie's house)

"Billie phone." Dawna yelled.
"I got it." Billie picked up the phone.
"Hello?"
"Hello there Mr. Armstrong? I have a few questions to ask you."
"Umm, ok shoot."
"How many people live in your household?"
"Umm, my girlfriend and I, why?"
"Just standard questions for this test."
"Uh, how'd you get my phone number?" Billie asked.
"Luck of the draw sir."
"Really now? Well I've answered your question over my good will. So, yah good bye."
"Ok. Well I guess I thank you for your time."
"Yah." Billie hung up the phone.
"Dawna! Do you know who that woman was on the phone?"
"Well I was just gonna ask you, the same question."
"Well I don't know. Did she ask you anything?"
"Nope."
"Ok, well if someone else calls asking for information don't give it to them. It's most likely those stupid magazine people trying to find out everything about us."
"Alright."

About 5 minutes later the phone rang again.
"Hello?" Dawna picked up the phone.
"Can I come over?"
"No."
"Why?"
"Why do you think?" Dawna said back.
"He hasn't left yet."
"Bingo. Anyways I'm gonna let you go. Bye."
"Who was it?" Billie walked into the living room.
"It was that woman again." Even though Dawna well knew it was a man on the other end of the phone.
"All right? Seems like you had a friendly chat with her."
"I don't have to rude to people Billie."
"Yah, well you sure are rude to me."
"Whatever. When am I rude to you?"
"Right now, making me choose you or my music. Shall I keep going?"
"Billie you need to stop."
"Ha, I'm not stopping. I'm just gettin started."
"Billie shut up."
"You're getting brave woman."
"Woman, here we go again!" Dawna threw her arms in the air, and shook her head.
"What, you're a woman? Would you like me to call you little girl? Is that better?"
"No, I'd like it if you called me Dawna.
"Well you don't ask for much do yah?"
"No. I just wanna be called by my name, and that's Dawna not woman, girl or chick."
"Ok, is bitch good?"
"What do you think? Can I call you a brick?"
"Go right ahead. What's stopping you now? You do it all the time."
"Yah, all the time Billie, all the time, like I live to call you names."
"Yah that's right."
"You're over exaggerating."
"Whatever. I'm leaving."
"Billie Joe, if you leave I wont be here when you get back."
"Oh yah, for some reason, I'm doubting that." Billie grabbed his stuff and closed the door behind him.
"What a fucked up man!" Dawna yelled before she picked up the phone.
Billie heard Dawna yell this before he got into the car. He knew he was pretty fucked up, but he was ok with it.
Billie didn't pay attention to Dawna and jumped into the car.

Mike's

"What brings you here?" Mike asked Billie.
"I don't know, had nothing better to do. So where's Ellie?" Billie asked, as he flopped down on the couch.
"She's in bed. She's sick."
"Oh great?"
"Yah."
"Here I got another song for us." Billie handed Mike Walking Contradiction.
"Very nice. I guess that's two songs now?"
"Yah. I guess so."
"So have you decided?" Mike looked down at the paper.
"Decided what?" Billie looked puzzled.
"Have you decided if you're quitting the band?"
"No, no I haven't. I kinda just got into a fight with Dawna, about that."
"Oh so that's why you're here?
"Uh, ah." Billie stoped
"Billie you gotta stop running away from your fights."
"Well I don't wanna make things worse with Dawna, and fighting isn't really my thing, at least not with woman."
"Billie you can pick your battles. But you can't run away when your side is losing."
"I don't. What are you talking about?"
"Well it sure seems like it. Why don't you share why you and Dawna are always fighting other than this quitting music thing?"
"I don't know. I don't wanna talk about it. I think I should go home and make sure Dawna still there."
"See what I mean, you run out when anyone tries to help you, or things get too heated for you. Like where would Dawna go Billie?"
"I don't know, but she said if I left, she wouldn't be there when I got back."
"And you left anyway?"
"Yah! So I'm off to see if she's still there. Bye."

Billie left and jumped into his car.
Mike was looking over the song Billie had handed him when a voice came from behind him. "Who was that?"
"Huh what? Oh it was Billie." Mike turned to face Ellie.
"Oh what's up with him now?" Ellie was getting sick of hearing about the little fights that him and Dawna had all the time.
"Same old, same old. Him and Dawna are fighting."
"You know, I hate to say it, but this never happened with May."
"Yah, yah I know. But there's nothing much we can do about May, she doesn't want to come home and she doesn't want us going back."
"Yah, but what if I went, I've been friends with her since like grade 0.
"Really?" Mike gave Ellie one of those looks.
"Yah, maybe if I talk to her."
"Ellie don't bother."
"Yah I guess you're right. But it wouldn't hurt to try."
"Whatever if you wanna try? You can try."
"I will. I'll go tomorrow."

BILLIE AND DAWNA

"Hello!"
"There's no need to yell. I'm right here." There Dawna sat with a drum of ice cream.
"You know we have blows for a reason."
"Really? I didn't know that."
"Well I can see that."
"I was being sarcastic."
"Yah I know." Billie sat down in the chair.
"So where'd you run off to now?"
"Why do you care?"
"Well, maybe." Billie just looked blankly at Dawna he knew it was one of the things pissed her off the most. "You know what! Never mind!"
"Yah, well then never mind." Billie shook his head.
"That didn't even make sense."
"Whatever! I'm going to bed."
"Fine then, I'll just sleep down here tonight." Dawna said to see if Billie would something along the lines of no you don't have to. But to her surprise he said the total opposite.
"Fine then, have fun." Billie walked upstairs and slammed the bedroom door.
