The Boys Next Door, chapter 1

It was nearly the end of summer which meant the most horrible thing would happen. School. The place every kid dreads. Madison got out of bed. Wiping her long, chestnut brown hair out of her eyes, she walked up to her bedroom window. She looked outside to see the "for sale" sign perched on her neighbors lawn. How she missed her friend, Hilary. Although Hilary only moved about six blocks away, Madison missed how she would just jump over the fence to see her best friend. She missed the times when they would both wake up in the middle of the night and talk to each other outside their window. Shattering her thoughts, Madison's phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Hey, it's me, Steph," replied her other best friend, Stephanie.

"Hey, what's up?"

"Are you looking out your window?"

"Ya, why?"

"Check out the for sale sign on Hil's lawn." Maddie did as she was told and gapped at the sight. The "for sale" sign was now a "sold" sign!

"Oh my god!"

"I know... I passed by Hilary's house this morning on my bike ride. I don't know why, but I feel so
horrible at the thought of her house being for sale," Stephanie said.

"I know what you mean." There was a short silence then Maddie said," I don't want her to go."

"It's only six blocks, Maddie," Stephanie said, trying to comfort her friend,"be glad she's not moving across the country!"

"Ya, that's true." There was another short silence.

"The people upstairs FINALLY moved out," Steph said excitedly. Stephanie lives in a basement home and constantly goes crazy over the noise that the people upstairs made. When she found out that they were moving, she jumped on her bed with joy for so long, her bed almost broke!

"Do you know whose moving in?" asked Maddie.

"Nope, but I'll find out in a few days, the family is moving in soon," Steph said.

"Cute guy, cute guy!" Maddie chanted. The girls giggled and decided that an hour on the phone was long enough. As she hung up the phone, a few thoughts crossed Maddie's mind like: who would move upstairs in Steph's house? Would they be noisy? What about Hilary! Would she like her new house? Would she have cool neighbors? But the thought that scared, but excited Maddie the most was: who was going to be her new neighbor??
