The Boys Next Door, chapter 4
"So you're telling me that your in a band?" Stephanie asked curiously during the way home.
"Ya, Sweet Children," said Tre.
"Cool! I'm in a band with my friends, Break The Rules," Steph said, pointing to the back of her black shirt. Tre read it. It said Break The Rules' Drummer."
"You're the drummer?"
"Kinda..." Stephanie said.
"What do you mean, kinda??" Tre asked.
"Well... let's just say Break The Rules isn't exactly a band yet," Stephanie replied.
"Uh.. ok then..." Tre said, confused, "Oh, I get it. You and your friends don't know how to play.. right??" Stephanie looked at Tre. He could tell the answer was no.
"Well, since I'm such a good drummer," he said proudly, "maybe I can teach you." Stephanie stood there in shock. Did I just hear what I think I heard? Or is my mind playing tricks on me?
"You want to teach.. me??" Stephanie finally blurted out.
"Ya, it would be fun," he said. As they walked up to their house, Stephanie and Tre stopped in front of the gate.
"So, Mr. Drummer of Sweet Children, when do lessons start?" Steph asked anxiously.
"Hmmm... well, I have to help my friend move into his new house in a few-"
"Your friend is moving here?" Steph asked.
"Actually, both of my friends. Our parents all decided to move down here so I wouldn't be all by myself. If I was...it would be... just... so... sad!" Tre said, pretending to cry. They both laughed. As Stephanie opened her gate, Tre walked towards his front door and yelled, "To answer your first question, lessens start at six. I'll meet you at the basement door."
Stephanie leaned on the gate and waited until she heard Tre's front door close. After it did, she jumped up and screamed, "YES!!"
"Put that box over there!"
"Ya ya ya, what ever mom," Billie Joe Armstrong mumbled to himself. Where the hell are Tre and Mike?? They should have been here by now... Just then, there was a knock at the door.
"Hey," Billie Joe said as his best friend, Mike Pritchard, walked in. "Where's Tre?"
"I dunno," Mike replied.
"Oh, that's really helpful, Mike," Billie said sarcastically.
"Glad to help!" Mike laughed, joining the sarcastic game. "Nice house." Looking around, Billie Joe replied sadly, "Ya... it's cool... I miss home though..."
"This is home now."
"I know, but everything was better there. Performing at Gilman, our old friends, school... wait, scratch that last one."
"Well you never know, things might be better here," Mike said, trying to lighten up the moment.
"Maybe..." Billie said, unsure if Mike was right or not.
"You never knooooooow!"
"Okay dude, that sounded REALLY creepy."
As the boys laughed, Tre walked in the door with a huge smile on his face.
"Uh oh, what have you been up to, Mr. Cool?" Billie Joe asked, carrying a box to the kitchen.
"Nooooooothing," Tre said innocently.
"Awww Tre, don't tell me you already screwed someone on your first day here!"
"Hahaha, you wish. I just went to the store to get milk with my neighbor," explained Tre.
"Ooooooh, the neighbor, huh?" Mike said, wiggling his eyebrows. "So if you just went to get milk, then explain that big grin you have on your face."
"I've got something on my face?!?!" Tre joked.
Out of the kitchen Billie Joe yelled, "Spill Tre! We know there's something going on. Don't deny it. We can see riiight through you."
"Yaaaaaaaaa," agreed Mike, with a snooty girl voice.
"Fine. Like I said, I went to the store to get milk with my neighbor...and..." Tre began.
"Aaaaaaand?" Mike and Billie said together.
"And....My neighbor is a girl that's really cute and I gotta go in like half an hour to give her drum lessons," Tre said quickly. Hopefully they didn't understand that...
"Oooh, Tre has a girl friend!!" Mike and Billie said in a sing-song voice.
Damn..., Tre thought. "Shut up guys, she's not my girl friend. We just met."
"Suuuuure, what ever you say," Mike said, winking at Billie.
"Well before you go and see your 'girl friend,'" Billie Joe began, doing finger quotation marks around the word girl friend, "can you help out? Because Mike didn't do ANYTHING."
"Yet," Mike said. He saw a bag filled with pillows and grabbed one. He gave Billie an evil look.
"Don't you dare," Billie warned.
"Oh, what are you gonna do about it?"
"This," Billie said as he grabbed a pillow out of the bag and smacked Mike in the head.
"Ow!!" Mike exclaimed.
"Oh, what now!" Billie said, laughing. As he stopped laughing, Billie looked at Tre, then back at Mike. Mike got the signal and turned towards Tre.
Backing away, Tre sighed and said, "Oh shit, why me?"
The two boys hurled their pillows at Tre as he fell over and landed on the couch. He grabbed the two pillows and started attacking Mike. Billie grabbed two more pillows, throwing one to Mike. As Mike caught it, Tre ran away screaming. Billie and Mike laughed and followed. That's when the huge pillow war started.
"Ya, Sweet Children," said Tre.
