The Boys Next Door, chapter 7

Billie Joe watched as the car drove passed him. It was an old, beat up van, dark red with spots of mud on it. The car pulled into the driveway next door. Hmmm, maybe it's Mike's neighbour...
When the car finally came to a halt, two doors opened. From one side of the car was a middle-aged woman, carrying a couple of shopping bags. On the other side of the car was the person who caught Billie's eye. She walked out of the van, carrying a bag and her Walkman. She seemed totally different from that lady in the van with her, probably her mom. She was wearing black jeans, a black and red t-shirt, and black converse shoes with black laces. Her mom was wearing light blue capris, with a matching shirt, and sandals.
The girls' dark brown, messy hair was in her eyes, but it didn't seem to bother her at all. Her mother had the most perfect hair, light brown and pinned back into a neat bun. A total difference. You could pretty much say that the girl's mom was a teenie, and she was a rebel.

Billie stared in amazement. He never saw anyone like that girl. She seemed so daring and different. So rebellious and interesting. So... for him.

"I see you've met my neighbour," said Mike, who was now standing behind Billie.

"Well I haven't exactly met her, but Id definitely like too," Billie replied. "Why didn't you tell me about her?"

"I just met... uh... whatshername yesterday. God, I don't even remember her name."

Mike walked away, saying something about checking on Bob. Who the hell is Bob? Oh well, I have better things to worry about. Billie turned his attention back to the neighbours house as the girl ran back outside to retrieve a bag that was left behind in the van. When she got her bag, she turned around and saw Billie Joe staring at her.
Grabbing the bag she said laughing, "Take a picture it. It lasts longer."
Feeling like an idiot, Billie turned around to face the road and started drinking the left over Mountain Dew that was in the bottle. Trying not to embarrass himself again, Billie slightly turned his head. To his surprise, he caught her staring at him.

"I guess I could say the same to you, take a picture," Billie said.

"Oh... Umm... Ya, right," Whatshername stuttered. She grabbed her bag and a can of Mountain Dew, and quickly walked away.
Was she just blushing?
Hearing the girls front door close, Billie smiled to himself. He knew it was mean to embarrass her, but she did the same to him, and hey, she was staring too! He thought of something inside of him that gave him goose bumps. He thought of something that made him smile. He thought something that made him forget about the move away from California. And you know what it was?

It was her.
