They're Gone, chapter 4
"Mike! Concentrate on the road, not me." I said blushing.
Mike looked back on the road before he asked if I wanted to go to the hospital to make sure Billie and my parents were okay. I had agreed, so that's where we were going.
"We're HERE!" Mike said in a sing-song voice as loud as he could.
I giggled slightly. I loved how he tried to make me happy. It was as if he'd been through all this before. I walked into the hospital and sat down in a waiting chair. Mike went up to the receptionist to find out the room number. Before he left he beckoned for me to come up.
"Yea?"
"What are your parents' names'?" Mike asked in a hushed voice.
"What? Why?"
"We're going to find out what room they're in so you can visit them."
"Well... Their names are Lance and Laura Corey."
Mike told the receptionist and she wrote down the room numbers for me. We walked to the elevator because Billie was on the third floor.
Mike looked at me, then turned away. I couldn't understand why though.
***Mike's POV***
Wow. She's more than what Billie said. She's wonderful. No stop it. I can't like her. Billie does. I can't take her away from him. I mean, I have a girlfriend. Billie doesn't. Let him have her. I told myself.
We finally found Billie's room. Kayla rushed in with her brown hair flying behind her. When she saw him, she just collapsed. I rushed to pick her up. When she got near his bed, she started crying uncontrollably.
"Billie! Oh my god! This is all my fault. I shouldn't have left her house! All I was doing was getting a drink, but I guess I fell asleep. Oh Billie Joe, I'm so sorry!" She said laying her head on his hand.
I tried to hold back my tears. This was hard since I didn't like to see her like this.
***Nobody's POV***
Billie looked at her. Mike nodded in agreement. Billie looked at her, put his hand on her head, and said, "Kayla, it's not your fault. Wendy and I go back. She never was that nice to me. Baby don't cry. I love you."
Kayla looked up. She slowly stopped crying and stared into Billie's eyes. He meant it and she knew it.
"Now why don't you go and see your parents?"
Kayla nodded. Slowly she got up, kissed Billie softly on the lips, and left to find her parent's room.
Billie looked to Mike. He gave a 'I know your secret now spill' kind of look and Mike told him everything.
***Kayla's POV***
He's okay. I can't believe it. When I'm done seeing my parents I'm going back there to ask him what happened with Wendy.
I walked to the room number the receptionist had given me and walked in, only to find it empty. I walked up to a nurse walking by and asked why it was empty.
She looked towards the room. "Sweetie, those people died a little bit ago. There was nothing we could do. I'm sorry."
I almost collapsed as she said it. She noticed my mood and offered to take me back to Billie's room.
When we got there, I just ran to Billie and cried. Billie didn't know why I was crying, but comforted me all the same. When I stopped crying and only hiccupped, Billie looked at me with his deep green eyes.
"Now, come sit on my bed and tell me what happened." I slowly got up and sat on his bed with him. I put my head on his chest and listened to his slow and steady heartbeat. He started running his hands through my hair.
"My parents... They.... Died." I said in almost a whisper.
Billie stopped running his hands in my hair. He lifted my chin and kissed me lightly on the lips.
"Oh Kayla, I'm so sorry. I know what it's like to lose one parent but both? I'm so sorry."
Billie was so comforting. He understood what I was going through. Tre arrived when I was crying and found out from Mike. Tre started crying too, but used Mike as a tissue. Mike and Tre left awhile later to get Mike a new shirt.
"Kayla, it's okay. You can stay with me. That is, if you want to. I'm sure my mom would let you. I mean after all this, she has to say yes."
"Thanks Billie. I really appreciate all this." Before I could say more, he gently put a finger to my lips, and laid my head on his chest.
Soon after that, I drifted off to sleep with four words floating in my mind.
I love you Billie.
