Wicked Times, chapter 14
I looked at Brook once more before making a decision. I said quietly, "Yes, Brook I'll marry you." I was still so overwhelmed by what had just happened in a matter of minutes.
I must have been blind because for the first time I noticed Brook holding a little, black, felt box with a wonderful silver, sparkling, diamond ring in it. Brook quickly but preciously slipped the ring on my finger. Once Brook stood up and got his balance back, I jumped up and hugged him. I smiled and he kissed me. I was so happy. I couldn't write down or describe in words what had just happened.
It then hit me that I would have to tell everyone about us, Brook and me.
How was I going to tell Adie? What about Billie, Tre, and Mike, once they got done touring? I know for a fact that they will be shocked. I'm glad Brook would be there with me, as I tell everyone. The one person I wanted to tell alone was Adie. I had to make sure she was the first to know. There was no way I could hide this from her. Especially until the guys or should I say Green Day came back from touring.
I hugged Brook and said, "I have to tell Adie right away, no secrets."
With that we both went inside the house smiling. Brook sat on the couch with both of the boys. Jakob and Joey knew right away that Brook was here. They loved him. They thought of Brook as an older brother.
As I looked back toward Brook I saw him giving me a reassuring glance. I knew I had done I right thing. I had to have done the right thing. Marrying Brook was right... I had hoped. I checked up stairs to see if Adie was there. I looked in every room. I even checked to see if she was cuddling Elena to sleep, she wasn't. I ran down the stairs. I flew past the boys, into the kitchen. There was Adie sitting on one of the wooden kitchen chairs, drinking coffee for the caffeine. She looked up at me.
She softly said, "Hey, Alex."
I smiled a bit wondering how to tell her. Before I could think any longer Adie had got up and poured me some coffee, too. She handed me the warm cup of coffee.
I said, "Thanks." I knew my voice didn't have that 'normal' tone to it. I suspected Adie would, any second now asked me, "Dear, what's wrong?"
She never asked. She just keep sipping her coffee. Maybe she hadn't caught the change in my voice. In a way I had hoped she wouldn't, yet part of me just wanted to spill everything out that had happened less than an hour ago. I got to my feet ready to leave, wanting to wait to tell Adie tomorrow, when she was more alert, about what had happened outside with Brook.
Right when I got up Joey sprang through the kitchen door yelling, "Mommy! Mommy! Mom......"
He got caught off by Jakob and Brook storming in after him yelling "No!".
By this time Adie had woke up one hundred percent. She asked Joey, "What's wrong?" Her eyes were wide. I would be scared too. Joey had shouted like someone was going to murder him.
He ran his sentences together, "BrookandAlextheytheyaregettingmarriedmommy!" he started to shout again after he said that.
I put my hands over my mouth. This isn't how I wanted to tell Adie about me being engaged to Brook.
Adie said, "Now Joey, tell me what you said, again."
Joey took a large breath. This was so horrid, but I couldn't do a thing. I sighed and keep talking to myself, so I might try to keep calm. Joey pointed to Brook and me. He yelled, "Engaged."
Adie's mouth flew open in shock.
