Wicked Times, chapter 22

I saw a white box. I opened it and I saw a sterling sliver charm bracelet. It was put neatly in the box full of tissue paper. The bracelet was shining from the different color of lights in the room. I picked it up so I could inspect it more closely. On it I saw a small charm in the shape of a heart. The heart was red and shining. The bracelet wasn't cheap at all, I could tell. It was so stunning. I loved it.

I told Brook "Thanks so much!"

Brook smiled at me for some odd reason, like he knew something I didn't.

I asked, "What, what is it?"

He just shook his head while grinning more. I rolled my eyes and headed off toward the punch table. I was wearing my charm bracelet. It was beautiful.

After what seemed hours and eight cups of spiked punch, at least I think it was eight cups, I was a bit tipsy. I guess the guys put just a bit too much alcohol in the punch. Of course I haven't drunk much alcohol through out my life, after seeing my father I vowed I wouldn't touch the stuff.
I still had my senses; they were just a bit dulled. As I was heading toward the bathroom I bumped into someone.

As soon as I noticed I said, "Sorry......sorry."

The guy smiled slightly at me and said, "That's ok."

I started to walk away, then he asked, "You want some more of that punch?" That's when I noticed he had short blonde hair and dark brown eyes. He looked about Brook's age. He looked so familiar. I couldn't place where I had seen him though. Maybe he was one of Brook's band mates or one of his friends.

To myself I said, "Why not?"
After not thinking about it very much I said, "Sure. What could it hurt?"

The guy mumbled something and went to get me a drink. I sat there on the steps for a few minutes until the blonde haired, brown eyed man came back.

All he said was, "Here." He sat down beside me acting all concerned about my state as I drank the punch.
In just what seemed like minutes my senses were almost completely dulled. The noise from the stereo seemed louder, my stomach felt sick. My life was switched from real to a movie in seconds. The guy asked if I needed some fresh air. I nodded as he helped me through the crowds.

Outside he asked, "Want to take a cruise?"

I didn't say I did or didn't. I next thing I knew, I was in the passenger seat of a red Firebird with the man. I headed away from the party that was meant to be mine. I just sleepier and more out of it as time went by. I tried fighting my way out of sleep, but it didn't work that way. As we were speeding into town I saw a stop light, it was yellow. I was so tired I couldn't say, "No, no stop! Slow down, now!"
I just let it go. I remember seeing the light turn red. Someone screaming, realizing that bloodly scream was mine. I was launched forward.

At the party Tre was looking all over for Alexis. He asked Billie and Mike where Alexis was, they didn't seem to know. Tre really wanted to give Alex her present from him. The group also had a present for her, but Tre wanted to get Alexis this certain gift. One that he thought she would just love. He started to ask around. No one knew where she was at. Tre was worried. Finally he talked to a girl that said she had seen her headed outside with some guy.
Tre got more worried. He looked outside the house. He couldn't find her, but of course it would have been easy to miss her in the mess of the party. Tre wanted to find Billie and Mike so, maybe they could find Alexis faster.

They couldn't find Alexis. They were all sick with worry. After the people filtered out of the house the phone rang. Tre heard it from a distance, but Brook answered it first.

Brook was worried about Alexis. He should have known that she was missing from the party, but he didn't know.
He knew that any amount of time wouldn't change what he felt. He wouldn't feel better until he found her safe and sound. The phone rang. Brook jumped up and pulled it off the hook. He cleared his voice, ready to talk.

The unknown person asked, "Is this the relatives of Alexis Cole?"

Brook said, "Yeah, her fiancé. Why, is she ok?"

Brook knew the person was a woman by the sound of her voice. She replied back by saying, "I'm sorry she isn't. She's in The Berkeley hospital right now."

Brook was in shock. He asked, "The hospital?" He wanted to make sure he got the woman's words right and didn't mix them up to make something horrid out of nothing.

The woman said, "Yes. We can't give you any of the details of Alexis over the phone, sorry. I advise you to come here as soon as you can." The woman didn't sound sorry at all.

Brook knew that Alexis wasn't safe and sound now. His stomach flipped. He felt sick.
