80 as in Adrienne Skye, chapter 5

She hadn't gone to see Billie, but to the park by the bay. It was a pretty basic park. Cherry blossoms popping of trees and the occasional park bench.
Adie had brought her guitar to practice and help her think out loud. Because when she was singing all her thoughts and problems came out in the lyrics.
"I always wondered who Dad was. Because every time I asked mom she would tell me to go play or she would tell me when I was older. I'm older now, and why does Nate know who he is?" Adie asked, sounding even more frustrated.
She looked out over the bay as if it held the answers to her questions. Though when she took a closer look she saw nothing, no sign or even a bird to try and steal her sandwich.

As if deciding not to push her luck, Adie got up and began walking. It had taken a good half hour to walk to the park. Then she sat for about twenty minutes. Hopefully the battle of the college was over.
She burst in the door with guitar in hand to see Nate lying on the couch.
"So, who won this time?" Adie asked, sitting down, right on top of her brother.
"I was winning, then Brad showed up. You know how he thinks he's so smart, so he takes over mom's battle and tells her to get out for awhile and calm down. Then he says in his stupid tough guy voice ' I'll take care of this. ' Then he says 'Lay off your mother, boy. You don't know what she's going through for you. ' So I say 'Yeah, I do because she married you! ' He gives me this retarded look like he got punched in the gut, then he slaps me in the face and calls me a drunk. The usual stuff," Nate said, pushing Adie off of his gut so that she fell onto the floor.
"He hit you? He's never done that before. I thought he was 'Mr. Sunshine Happy pants'" Adie said, shocked.
"He does it all the time. He doesn't hit you because he thinks there's still hope for you. All he thinks I'm a drunk who's gonna end up like what his father once was."

Adie's Point of View
Who knew that Brad had it in him to even consider slapping Nate? If you looked at Brad stupid, 5 foot 5 inches compared to my brother who is 5 foot 10 inches you couldn't imagine it.
Then there was the fact that Nate brought up Dad again. I mean my real dad, not that poser. At the time I was still freaked out that he even knew anything about the guy. Well, back to the story, you're probably getting bored with me being in the way.

Story Point of View Again
"Dad? What do you mean? You mean that Dad's a drunk, maybe that's why he and mom aren't together," Adie said, giving it a hard thought.
"No, that's not what I meant. Besides Dad just loves his booze as much as the next guy. From what I've heard his life is going pretty good and he only drinks for the fun of it, like me. Not to get drunk-"
"I thought you only drank to get drunk-"
"No, I just love my booze," Nate retorted back.
"Fine, you only drink because of your love for it. Not because you love the hangovers. So, you were saying about Dad," Adie said slyly.
"Oh, no, you don't. This is an issue you need to clear up with Mom. She said she'd kick my can if I told you anything about Dad. Go on, I think she's in the alley smoking a pack," Nate said, gently pushing her toward the back door.
"Thanks for being so much help, Nate," Adie yelled back sarcastically.
"That's what I'm here for. Oh, tell Mom I'm going to work and won't be back till 11 because of the late shift." he yelled before disappearing out the door.
"Sure he's going to work. That's what we all hope," Adie thought as she exited the house into the back of the house.

At first she didn't see anyone, that was until she smelled it. The familiar scent of smoke from the end of a cigarette.
Adie looked around slowly, watching the trail of smoke which led to her mother.
