Don't Leave Me., chapter 2
Miss Clarts introduced him as Michael Pritchard. Usually, I would have sneered, but he looked so great that I couldn't. His name was suddenly glorious. And he had to sit next to me. Me! He didn't seem to take any major interest in me, but I could soon change that!
When Miss Clarts set us our work and the class started to talk among themselves, I turned to him.
"Hi... Michael," I said, batting my eyelids, trying to look pretty. He turned slowly towards me.
"Mike," he said wearily.
"Huh?" I said, suddenly stopping the pretty act.
"Call me Mike," he told me.
"Oh... Ok... Mike," I giggled. He didn't smile back, just turned back to his work on Romeo and Juliet.
I desperately searched for something to say.
"I-I'm Gemma... Um... You like The Clash?" I asked, gesturing to his shirt.
"Well, duh!" Mike answered, not even looking up from his work. Then he did look at me properly.
"I-I'm sorry. I'm just feelin' a little down today, ya know?" he said. I smiled at him.
"That's okay. I feel like that all the time!" I laughed. He smiled back at me, and then started writing again.
Then that annoying twerp Kelsey sauntered over, uninvited and smiling.
"Hi, Gemma," she said brightly. She turned to Mike. "Hey there, Michael," she added shyly.
Mike smiled at her, not even telling her to call him Mike.
"Hi, um... " He drifted off.
"Kelsey," she said.
"Kelsey." Mike smiled warmly at her. I watched him very carefully, narrowing my eyes.
"Th-The Clash?" asked Kelsey. I shook my head, expecting Mike to do the same. He just smiled even more.
"They're a band," he laughed. I couldn't believe my ears! It was like Mike and Kelsey were in their own little private world where I was butted out to the edge. Again.
I frowned at them, and thankfully, the bell rang.
I grabbed Mike's wrist and dragged him out of the classroom.
"C'mon, Mike. I wanna introduce you to some friends of mine," I said.
Mike looked back at Kelsey, who waved at him. He smiled and nodded at her, then let me drag him the rest of the way out of the classroom.
I walked up to my two best friends, Stacey and Josie. Stacey was in her black mini and purple and black top with black converse and Josie was in her short denim skirt and black-patched top and black converse.
Mike looked at them doubtfully, and they grinned back at him.
"Mike, this is Stacey and Josie. They're in my band. We're called Jet way. Stacey's drums, Josie's bass and I'm electric," I stated proudly.
"Uh, cool. Listen, I'm gonna be... over there." Mike gestured vaguely to a crowded place further up the corridor of lockers. "I'll... I'll see ya round." Then he rushed off, out of sight.
I turned back to Stacey and Josie. Stacey smirked.
"Gemma Watson - You are in lerve!"
