Don't Leave Me., chapter 7

I glared at Mike.

"You know what Mike?" I hissed, "Forget it! I don't know why I even WANTED to get to know you! Because it's obvious you're just a ... Just a ..." I struggled to find the right word.

"What? What am I?" Mike spat.

"An awkward little bastard!" I shot back, "I was just trying to be friendly to you on your first day!"

"Oh? Is that what you call it? You can't fool me, Gemma, I could see you, puckering your lips, batting your eyelashes. One big fucking show!" said Mike.

I didn't know what else to say, so I just went,

"Eurgh!" I leant back in my seat.

Miss Clarts started to talk then, so we had to shut up.

"I hate you, Mike," I whispered under my breath. I wasn't sure if he heard me or not.

At break, I set off to find Stacey and Josie. Josie was flirting with some guy I'd never seen before and Stacey was held back in her own math class to talk to the teacher about her slipping grades.

So I was on my own.

Once again.

What did I care? I sauntered along happily. Well, happily enough... Until I saw Kelsey going by. I quickly pushed my hand out and knocked her flying.

Her delicate oval reading glasses flew from her head and she landed with a loud thump. I cackled with laughter. Kelsey looked up at me from her curtain of blonde curls. She looked like she was about to cry.

She quickly stood up and brushed herself down.

"Gemma," Kelsey began quietly, "You did that on purpose. Why did you do that?"

"Why shouldn't I have done?" I smirked, shrugging. Kelsey shook her head as if she couldn't quite believe what she was hearing.

"I don't get you, Gemma. Why are you so mean to everyone? What has anyone ever done to you?" she asked.

"Knocked me about, cast me aside, treated me like dirt!" I replied.

"Well, you just knocked me about, cast me aside and treated me like dirt. And I haven't done anything to you," she said.

I grabbed hold of her by the shoulders and looked straight into her deep blue eyes.

"Oh yes you have you little creep! You took Mike away! He was supposed to be my friend, but oh no, you come flouncing along and shack up with him as quickly as possible!" I hissed. Kelsey wriggled free of my clutch.

"I don't understand, though! You and Mike can still be friends!" she said worriedly.

"No we can't. I wouldn't expect you to understand," I snapped, and then I rushed off.

I don't know why I was so bothered about the whole Mike thing, though. I didn't care about Michael Pritchard one little bit.
