A Different Kind of Love, chapter 10
Billie Joe nodded and walked back into the rumpus room. Zach twitched a little on the couch. Tre and Mike followed Billie Joe. Mike sat on the table near Zach and studied him whereas Tre sat behind the couch and slowly popped his head into view to look at Zach. Billie Joe stood with his arms folded. All three men looked silently at the little boy on their previously empty couch.
"Do...do we feed it?" asked Tre, leaning down to poke Zach in the nose. Mike slapped his hand.
"Tre, you fucking moron, don't poke him! How are we supposed to feed him when he's sleeping, idiot?" Mike glared at Tre, who shrugged.
"Uh uh no...we could cook something then make him smell it...then he'll wake up and want to eat. Or...maybe he wants to eat out of his own bowl. I had a dog called Zach...I might still have his bowl..."
"TRE! WE ARE NOT FEEDING THE CHILD OUT OF A DOG BOWL!" yelled Mike. Zach stirred and peered blurrily at Mike and Tre. He looked at them both, trying to read their eyes. Zach was good at that. He'd learnt to be able to tell whether a person was violent or not.
He looked at Mike's eyes...and saw that he could be if he wanted to, but he wouldn't hurt small things. He also saw that Mike was worried and didn't really like him that much. Zach was hurt, but decided to move onto Tre.
He saw complete oblivion in Tres eyes...and the fact that he literally could not fight. He saw a friend in Tre.
Zach moved silently to Billie Joe's eyes and smiled. He saw a real father...
"Zach...are you alright?" asked Billie softly, sitting down on the table next to Mike. Zach beamed.
"Hey...you aren't very big either!" he laughed.
Tre pissed himself from behind the couch and fell to the floor laughing. Zach smiled and saw Billie Joe doing the same. Mike smiled lightly yet Zach still wasn't sure how to approach Mike. He saw him as a mystery. Tre again pulled himself up onto the couch.
"Does it want some food yet?"
