A Different Kind of Love, chapter 14
"No." said Zach, and pulled away from Billie.
"Zach, you cannot keep living like this, alright? One day he is going to kill you. You've come here, everyday, with new markings and they just keep getting worse and worse. One day Zach...one day he's going to hurt you so badly you won't be able to come here anymore. One day he's going to hurt you so bad you'll get really really hurt. Worse than ever before. We need to tell the police Zach. We need to take you away from there. I can't do it, or your dad will sue me for kidnapping you. Please Zach, tell the police, I can't do it unless you say you want me to, or else I'll feel like I've let you down..." Billie Joe gently held Zach's forearms, looking into his eyes and pleading with him once again.
"NO! No, I can't! Please Billie Joe if they found out he'd come looking for me! If they found out he'd know...he'd know I was telling people, he'd know his life is over and he'd take mine for it please Billie no!" Zach begged Billie. Zach pulled away from Billie and walked over to the door.
"I can't tell anyone Billie I can't!" Billie Joe ran over to the door and knelt in front of Zach.
"Zach...Zach hear me out. If we told the police..." Billie began. Zach held his hands over his ears and burst into frightened tears.
"NO! NO NO NO! NO!!!" screamed Zach. Mike and Tre watched on in shock from the couch. Zach had never yelled at Billie before.
Billie Joe tried to cuddle Zach, but Zach pushed him out of the way as best he could.
"MOVE!" screamed Zach, trying to get to the door. Billie Joe looked into Zach's eyes once again. Zach looked furious. Billie Joe didn't blame him. If he was this frustrated, he couldn't imagine what Zach was feeling.
"Please, please move." whispered Zach, tears flooding over his once happy eyes. Billie Joe swallowed and got up. He walked behind Zach, feeling his hand slip from his weak hold. Zach didn't look back and walked out of the door and down the street. It was now summer...but the house seemed dark. Billie Joe's sillhouette against the curtains made him look small and hurt. Billie Joe knelt down and sat on the floor. Mike and Tre slowly rose up from couch and walked toward their friend.
"Billie?" Mike asked softly, looking down at Billie on the floor. He heard Billie Joe sobbing quietly and began to cry himself. Tre wrapped his arm around Mike as they both stood together and listened to Billie Joe cry softly for a little boy who had just got away.
