1987, chapter 1

Today is a very important day for Ashleigh, today is 17th January 1987, which is exactly one year since her father died. It's been a horrible year for her, all she could think about was that terrible night, the night of the car accident, the one that killed her father and almost killed her...

***

I was woken up by the sound of my alarm. As I slowly got up out of bed I realised what day it was... I pictured the awful night, the lights, sirens, the blood, the sight of my father laying motionless beside me. I blinked a few times, trying to force back the tears. I got dressed, brushed my hair, and walked down to the kitchen, popped a couple of pop tarts into the toaster and poured my self an orange juice. I sat at the table waiting for my pop tarts. My mum and sister walked down the stairs looking very sad.

"Morning," we all said in unison.
I quickly ate my pop tarts, and walked back to my room and got my bag ready for school, I then brushed my teeth, applied my eyeliner and mascara and walked out of the door to go to school.

I opened my locker and heard someone calling my name. I turned around and came face to face with Billie, Tre and Mike.

"Hey guys," I said, forcing a fake smile.

"Hey Ash," said Mike.

"Hi," said Billie.

"HEYYYYYYYYYY!" screamed Tre jumping up and down.
I just had to laugh at that.

"So uh, what's first lesson?" asked Billie.

"Umm..." I looked at my time table, "art,"

"YESSSSSSSS" we all said jumping up and down.

***

"OH CRAP!" Tre yelled as he spilt some paint over his work. "Hey, that actually looks kinda cool!"
We all laughed and looked at Tre's work.

"Awesome." We all said.
I didn't feel like drawing or painting anything. All I could think about was that night, one year ago, I felt a tear running down my face, and looked at the ground hiding it from the guys.
Billie noticed and said,

"Ash, are you okay hun?" I just shook my head. Then the bell rang, next we had science.
We walked to science and sat at the back of the class as usual.

"So, Ash, what's wrong?" Billie whispered to me so the others couldn't hear.

"My dad died... one year ago... Today." I said.

"Oh shit. Sorry," said Billie looking at me apologetically.

"Don't worry."

"So... is that why you never talk about your dad?" I nodded.

"Wanna talk about it?"

"Okay... "

"So, how did he... you know... ?"

"Well, my dad and I were driving along, we were heading to my grandmas, it was about 11pm, and all I remember is seeing a flash of white light and hearing a crash. I woke up in the car, and looked at my dad, he was covered in blood, I could see flashing lights and I could hear sirens and screaming, I tried to move but I had broken my leg and arm and 4 ribs. In the end, my dad died on the way to the hospital and I was lucky, I lived. I nearly died though; they lost my heartbeat for about 3 minutes." I finished

"Holy shit," said Billie, looking shocked.

"Mr. Armstrong. Do you have something you would like to share with us?" interrupted Mr. Bell, the science teacher.

"Uh, no sir,"

"Then I expect you to be silent in my class while I am trying to teach those of you who actually want to learn, Mr. Armstrong, if you do not want to learn, I suggest you leave this class room immediately, or keep your mouth shut!" ordered Mr. Bell.

"Yes sir, sorry sir," said Billie, smiling at me.

"What an asshole," he said under his breath so that only Tre, Mike, and I could hear him. I smiled. The other two laughed silently. Tre suddenly let out a snort and then made Billie, Mike, and I laugh out loud.

"ALL FOUR OF YOU TO THE PRINCIPALS OFFICE THIS INSTANT!" Yelled Mr. Bell.
We walked out of the classroom still laughing and tried to calm down. After we were calmer, we walked to the principals office and knocked on the door.

"Come in," she said. The four teenagers looked at each other before walking in, they looked scared and worried...
