The One, chapter 1

Dealing with the death of a loved one is enough for any eleven year old child to deal with, but a parent is enough to destroy them. Believe me I should know, I was eleven years old when my dad lost his battle with cancer.

Cancer is the most selfish illness there is; instead of letting its victim die quietly and with minimum pain, it eats away at the person and fights its way through chemo and radiation and won't stop until it is beaten or the body it posses is gone.

I still think about my dad alot, but I know he's watching me and he's definatley proud of my achievments in life (ok maybe not the woodstock pandemic where Mike lost his teeth).

I started by telling you how my father died but I think we need to go way back before then, before the selfish demon that is cancer entered my dad.

When I was nine I always hated school, I was picked on for being short, and when they gave up on that it would be one bitty thing after another, my shoes weren't tied right, or my shirt was the wrong colour...

Soon after I met a boy called Mike in the caferteria, he was sitting alone. So with nothing to lose I sat next to him, and soon enough we were talking, we clicked instantly. We both loved the same "lame" music as the other kids called it. And a few years later started yet another band that we called "Sweet Children"

Soon after our drummer left, and we found Frank, eventually he changed his name to TRE COOL and Mike changed his name to MIKE DIRNT not Mike Pritchard.

It's a bit of a rush to think, that once we were practicing in garages doing gigs that didnt pay and we were broke, now we are the most famous band in the world and RICH beyond our wildest dreams!

As I was saying me and Mike were loners in high school, I was known as "two-dollar-bill" because i sold joints for $2 to get some extra money, hey, it worked! My dad and me were never that close, but there was a bond, and when he passed Mike was always there and comforted me and i know even 'till this day he'll be there for me,and he knows ill be there for him, same with Tre.

When we were doing a gig (not paid of course) I looked across to the audience and saw the most beautiful woman I have ever seen, sparkling eyes, amazing body, long legs and the most innocent face I had ever seen. I knew instantly that she was the one, it sounds cheesy when people say it but it truly was love at first sight.

After the show I went over and managed to stutter out "h-h-hi" she smiled her smile and laughed and replied, "hey, im Adi, you guys played good, your name's Billie Joe right?"

Once again feeling like a complete donkey I stammered "y-y-yeah, ermmm do you, well I mean only if you want to, you dont have to but ermmm do you want to get some coffee?"

Without hesitation she said, "yeah sure, let's go."

Mike then came over and said Billie are you coming? There's this awesome party at Lee's we're invited!"

I looked at Adi standing across from me Mike gave me a wicked grin and said, "the hottie can come to."

I could have killed him! I went bright red! She didnt seem to mind, she took my arm and said, "Sure, let's go."

There was something reasuring about being near here that was comforting. We went to the van and drove to Lee's house.
