"BEEP! BEEP!" Eliza Ruthers shuddered awake and smacked her alarm clock, turning it off. She lay on her stomach in bed for awhile, then realised she had to get up because it was the first day of school for the year. She got up, had a quick shower and got dressed. Eliza pulled on her skinny jeans, black converses, 'The Clash' concert t-shirt and her over-sized black jacket. Then she put on eyeliner and lip gloss and looked in the mirror. Eliza looked at her outfit and thought about how she would be teased at school about her style. Eliza was an outcast and a loner.
After she ate some cereal, Eliza grabbed her bag and set off for school. Her mom was in New York for business, so Eliza had to take care of herself. When she arrived at Rodeo High School, Eliza was greeted by her least favourite person on the world. Amy Southers. Amy smiled her perfect shiny-toothed smile and said to Eliza, "Hey, look who's back! But I thought you were going to drop out and become a full-time hooker!" Eliza felt the anger grow inside of her. She wasn't going to take any shit from anyone this year, especially that bitch Amy! Eliza gritted her teeth, raised her hand and dragged her nails along the side of Amy's face. Amy screamed and turned away from Eliza, holding her cheek which was bleeding. Eliza stormed away and gave Amy the finger as she went.

Eliza took her seat at the back of the classroom for English class. The teacher entered the room and said, "welcome back, everyone! Today we have a new student joining us! This is Billie Joe Armstrong." A boy entered the room and stood at the front of the class. He had messy auburn hair and wore a plain black t-shirt, jeans and black converses like Eliza's. When he walked in, a couple of girls giggled and nudged each other.
Billie Joe looked around the room for a bit, then walked to the back and sat at the desk next to Eliza's. When the teacher turned to write on the blackboard, he said to Eliza, "hi, I'm Billie."
"I'm Eliza," she replied, smiling.
"I love The Clash!" said Billie, looking at Eliza's t-shirt. "Have you ever heard of Operation Ivy?"
"Heard of them? I LOVE them!" replied Eliza with enthusiasm.
"Wow! Me too!" Eliza laughed. She liked this boy already.

From that day on, Eliza and Billie Joe became the best of friends. They had so much in common! One day after school, Eliza went over to Billie's place to watch him practise with his band, the Sweet Children. When Eliza got home that night, she felt on top of the world. She finally had friends! She had also gotten to know the other two guys in the band, Mike and John. Eliza lay on her bed and thought about Billie. She loved his messy hair, and those gorgeous green eyes. She loved how he would play her favorite songs on his guitar. Oh my God! thought Eliza. I'm in love with Billie Joe Armstrong!
For ages Eliza lay there thinking about Billie. She loved him, but never thought he felt the same way about her. He never looked at her as though he liked her more than just a friend. Meanwhile, Billie sat on his bedroom floor and plucked his guitar. He was thinking about Eliza, with her long brown hair, her friendly smile and those icy blue eyes. He was in love, no doubt about it! If only she felt that way about him! Billie joe wanted to tell her how he felt, after all they were best friends. He wondered how he would tell her, then got an idea. He strated to strum out a tune on his guitar...

The next day when Eliza arrived at school she found Billie standing near her locker. "Hey Lize!" he said.
"Hey," she replied.
"Whats up?"
"Nothing much."
"Wanna come over after school?" Billie Joe asked her.
"Okay!" she replied. The bell rang and she said, "we'd better get to class."

After school, Billie Joe said to Eliza, "I wrote this song and I think you'll like it."
"Let's hear it, then!" said Eliza.
"Okay, hang on," said billie as he plugged his guitar into the amp.

"What do you think?" Billie asked. Without thinking, Eliza leaned forward, put her hands on his shoulders, and kissed him. When they broke apart, Eliza licked her lips and said,
"I love you."
"I love you too," Billie replied, and kissed her again. They sat there for ages, just holding each other until Eliza finally fell asleep. Billie leaned back and closed his eyes, with the love of his life in his arms.

"Oh my God what the hell's the time?!" said Billie Joe as he woke up. Eliza stirred and looked sleepily into his eyes.
"Who cares," she said, "stuff school. Let's run away together, far, far away and live happily ever after." Billie cuddled her and said,
"You're right, go back to sleep." Then they both shut their eyes and went drifted back into their happy dreams.

That afternoon at about 1:30 Lyza decided she'd better go home. She kissed Billie Joe one last time before she left. "Sure you don't want me to walk you home?"
"I'm ok, don't worry," she said and stared to walk down the path. Billie Joe blew her a kiss and she caught it, with a huge smile on her face. Little did she know, her happiness wasn't going to last much longer.
Billie watched her walk out of his sight and went back inside. He sat on his bed and started to think about the other people at school, how they always poked fun at Eliza and gave her shit for being different. She took it so well. He thought about it and wondered why they weren't mean to him. It was strange. there was a popular group of girls and one of the girls kept on smiling at him and trying to flirt when Eliza wasn't around. He thought she was sort of hot, but he loved Eliza. Billie told the girl to go away, but she wouldn't give up.

The following Monday Eliza went to school still very happy about the night she spent with Billie. As she walked up the sidewalk towards school, her mind was in another place. It was back in Billie's room, the night Eliza and Billie fell asleep in each others' arms. Eliza looked up towards the school gate and saw something that made her freeze in her tracks. Her heart seemed to stop beating while it was ripped in half.
