Christie Road, chapter 2
"Welcome to our 'lil' hangout" A heard the blonde haired boy say as he saw the exitement on my face.
"I'm Mike, Mike Dirnt" He introduced himself.
"I'm Billie Joe"
"Nice to meet you, by the way, my names Frank but, well, just call me Tre" He winked. I smiled, it made me feel better, it hurt but it was good. They sat me down on the step at the side of the tracks.
"Wow, this place is amazing, why don't many people know about it?" I questioned. They looked at each other.
"Well you see..."
"Nevermind!" Mike interupted Tre. I didn't really care. It didn't matter that much.
"So why did you guys bring me here?" I asked them.
"We know you're a loner at school, we've seen it all before, it's happened to us" Mike said. Lunch was almost over, maybe we shouldv'e gone back to school but Mike and Tre didn't want to. They thought if them bullies saw me they would have beat me up again. I know they were just saying that to get me to stay but i'm glad I did. This was the only place i'd ever known where i'd found the slightest bit of acceptance.
"So, Mike, Tre?" I changed the subject.
"Yeah" They both asked almost in unision.
"How often you guys hang out here?"
"All the time, Billie" Mike said.
"It's been about two years since we first came here" Mike added.
"Since we were twelve" Tre managed to get a few words in.
"Cool" I said. Mike went into his bag and pulled out a tin case. He opened it and pulled out three ready made spliffs.
"Want one?" I had never done it before, I wasn't sure, after all it was drugs.
"Yeah sure" Tre took one and rumaged around in his pocket and finally took out a lighter. He lit his and it looked so good.
"Yeah okay" Mike saw how uneasy I was about this.
"You haven't smoked pot before have you?" He said. I confessed.
"No, this is my first time"
"It's okay we started when we started coming here, we used to just come here to get away from bullies but then we started to come here to smoke pot" Tre comforted me.
"Thanks" I said, I took the joint out of Mike's hand and lit it with Tre's lighter. I felt good, I coughed a bit on the first pull but after that it was great. These guys were great, they didn't tease me or hit me. I wondered why they had suddenly taken to me, why was it me they decided to help out. It may seem weird for me to think let alone say but i'd never been able to say this, I had friends.
"So, you like the weed?" Tre asked.
"What?" I was in a daydream.
"The cannabis!" He yelled jokingly.
"Oh... that, yeah it's great" I replied.
"So what do you call this place?" I asked.
"It used to be called 'Christie Station', But now..." Mike was interupted by Tre.
"Now we call it 'Christie Road', Great place this is"
"Tre you're so rude" Mike laughed. I laughed with him, Tre just shot him an impatient glance. All three of us giggled and finally laughed it off.
"So why'd you change the name?" I was curious.
"Well look around..." Mike said, I did. All I saw was dead tracks and the feeling of emptiness.
"It hardly looks like a station anymore" He was right. I still wondered why no-one came here, did they ever come here, did something happen that I missed. I thout of it for the rest of the day but couldn't find an explanation for their secrecy. I knew i'd find out sooner or later but never realised how soon...
