The Secret, chapter 9

Billie opened his eyes wide. The first he saw was something white, flat, big.
"Oh. So this is what it's like to be dead", he thought, but when he strenuously turned around, seeing a stranger, he realized he was alive.
He moaned and rubbed his head. It really hurt.

"Where am I?" he asked, now rubbing his eyes.

The man smiled.
"You're okay now. You're at the hospital."
"And... why?"
"Well", said the man, who by the way was the doctor. "You ran off and got hit by a car."
"Really?" Billie grinned. "Why?"
"That's four days ago. Your girlfriend says you had a fight, and you--"
"Oh my God, Adie!"

Billie jumped up from the bed.
"Oh, no, no, you aren't going anywhere!" shouted the doctor and grabbed Billie's sleeve.
"I'm going anywhere if Adrienne is there!" Billie yelled, trying to forget the pain in his leg. He pulled his clothes out of the doctor's hands and ran out into a long corridor.

He had no time to stay and think about where he should ran. So he just... yeah, ran. It was hard, though, his right leg was hurting and his left arm was plastered, so it was probably broken.

"Stop!" screamed the doctor not far behind.

Billie decided to hide, and had a try to jump aside, into an empty office.
Unveiled.
"Come here, now! Why are you running away?"
"I wanna see my girlfriend!" Billie reeled off fastly. "I must! She's pregnant! And I don't know--"
"Calm down now!" doctor cut off. "If you get back to your room I promise I will help you, okay?" He talked slow and sounded both bored and used to patients that ran away.

Billie gave up. He nodded and tottered after the doctor into the room again.
He settled down at the bed.

"Is your girlfriend at home?" doc asked.
"Noo", said Billie. "The baby would arrive anytime when... when I ran a-away and... wait a moment! Maybe she's here! Please--"
"Ohh calm down again!" The doctor held up his hand. "If you stay here, I'll call the reception and ask them to check that up. Okay?"
"Okay."
"What's her name?"
"Adrienne Nesser."
Doctor nodded and left the room.

Three minutes later, he was back.
Billie looked fervently at him.
"She's here."
Billie just wanted to cheer. Adie!
"And if you'll meet now, you must go to her, she and the baby is still tired."
He had nearly finished his sentence before Billie flew off his couch.

"I'm... I'm a father?"
"I guess", said the doctor, shrugging his shoulders with a big smile. "Congratulations!"
"I must get there now!" Billie shouted. "I have to!"

The doctor beamed.
"I guess I can't stop you. Are you sure you don't want a wheelchair?"

Billie gave him a glance saying "are you kidding me?" and doc. laughed.
"She's on third floor, follow me."

"Adie!"
"Oh my God, Billie!"

Billie was going to ran and hug her, but he stoned when he saw the bundle on Adie's chest.
His kid.

"He's cute, isn't he?" said Adie, rocking the baby.
"That's my... my son?"
"Of course he is. Say hello."

Billie tottered to his girlfriend, and both of them were beaming.
He stroke the baby's cheek.
The doc made the expression "I-won't-disturb" and disappeared.

"Sweetheart, there's something I want to know", said Billie, settling down beside her.
"Anything for you."
"What was that letter...?"

Adie almost grinned.
"I think I know who it was... and I will kill him next time I see him... but I don't think he wanted us to pass this."
"Who?"
"Tré of course."
Something knocked Billie's stomach.

"TRÉ?!"
"Aka our clown. He's funny, isn't he? It was his handwriting."
"I guess I was too crestfallen to realize that", said Billie. "But... well Tré is Tré."
"Funny."
"Very."

Silence.

"Forget about that now, baby", Billie decided and kissed Adie. "How's Joey?"

It took Adie five and a half seconds to understand who Joey was, and that made her smile.

"Joey?" she grinned. "Joey? That's a nickname, sweetie."
"I like Joey", persevered Billie.
"Me too, but that's a nickname, isn't it?"
"What about Joseph then?"

"Well..." Adie kissed the baby's forehead and looked at him with warmth in the glance. Then she added whispering: "Welcome Joseph."

***

Well that's the end of this story... I'll leave the decision if it was Tré or if it was some other bastard who wrote the letter up to you. I know that can seem confusing. But thanks for supporting me, I don't know if I'd finish this story if it weren't for you. Thanks to you all who has voted and everything.
