Welcome to Paradise, chapter 1

"Ali, hun, were about to cross into California." A voice called.

A girl, by the looks of it, only 13, opened her eyes, sitting up in the seat of the car that she took up.

Ali sighed, looking out the window. The sign on the highway said 'Welcome to California!" She groaned, at the thought of moving.

Her parents called it "paradise". She preferred to call it "hellhole."

Just then, Ali heard a noise from the seat next to her. She looked over, at the figure. Her younger brother, Blake, had his face pressed up against the window, waving to strangers.

"Blake, cut it out." Ali said, nudging him in the stomach, as he pulled back from the window.

"Mom!" he yelled, "Ali's hitting me, again!"

Ali's mother turned around, looking at Ali, sharply. "Stop hitting your brother, Ali." She told the girl, as Ali sunk down into her seat. Blake gave her a grin, that seemed to say "I won, you little punk freak!"

She had just come all the way from Maryland, to California, due to her parent's job transfers, so technically, it was all their fault. She would've rather stayed in Maryland, instead of moving to Hicksville. Her parents said that the place was in the middle of nowhere.

"Great." She thought, to herself. "probably filled with hillbilly bastards." She sighed, closing her eyes, wishing that this was just a big dream. Wishing that when she woke up, she was back in her home in Maryland, back with all her friends.

Back home.

"Here we are!" Ali's dad called out, as Ali stepped out of the car, looking around at the surroundings. Her mom was right, this was in the middle of nowhere. She could barely see one house in the distance.

"Mom, this hellhole's in the middle of nowhere." Ali said, slamming the car door shut.

"This... Is... AWESOME!" Blake yelled, jumping around. "I can ride my bike around here, and, I can-"

Blake stopped suddenly, as a guy on a bike was coming around the corner. He stopped at their house, looking at Ali, then riding up the gravel driveway, stopping infront of her.

"Heya." He said, outstretching his hand. "I'm Frank. Most of my friends call me Tre though. Tre Cool."

Ali shook his hand, he'sitantly. He continued talking, looking at Blake, and Ali's parents, all who stood in silence.

"Apparently, your new here." He said.

Ali nodded, now looking slightly embarrassed.

"Hey!" he said, seeing that Ali's parents were now heading towards the house. "I'm taking-" he continued, pointing towards Ali, "on a tour around this dump, alright?" he finished, as Ali's parents looked at him.

"Um... Tre, is it?" Ali said, "why... Why don't you just come back later, alright?!" she yelled, looking down at the ground.

Tre looked at her, as he ran back to his bike, pedaling off without saying another word, to any of them.

Ali groaned, sitting on the trunk of the car. "Was I really that mean?" she asked. Blake nodded, as she kicked him in the stomach. She hopped off the trunk, opened it, and took a bag of her stuff, heading into the house, to claim her room.

Everyone had settled in, as Ali looked out the window in her room. It was now dark out, and she thought about Tre.

"I wonder if he's out there... " she said, to nobody in particular. She wished now, that she wasn't of so mean to him. He didn't deserve it, after all. He was just trying to be helpful.

She sighed, and turned the lamp in her room off, covering herself in the covers on her bed. Maybe she'd see Tre tomorrow.

Then she could say she was sorry. Then she could apologize.
