Tell Me That I Won't Feel A Thing, chapter 9
The day of Mike Ryan's funeral...
Tre took Tess home the day after her party. She had refused to leave Nadie's bedroom and wasn't eating anything. Tre was getting worried about her. The next day he pulled Nadie aside and asked her some things.
"Nadine, has Tess ever mourned anything elses death before? She's being pretty severe about it."
"Tre! This was her boyfriend! Not pet dog!"
"But I thought she said she broke up with him!" Tre was getting confused.
"They broke up over the phone, not in person. Personal breakups are real breakups" Tre nodded slowly.
"Okay. That sounds...understandable... But you never answered my question!"
Nadine sighed and rolled her eyes.
"Her dog, Snorkey, died last year. She loved that Border Collie."
Tre nodded again.
"Anyway, she didn't eat or go to school that whole week. I'm guessing that with Mikey, she won't be the same anytime soon."
"Okay. Thanks for the help. I'll see you at the funeral."
The church was filled with all of Mike's closest friends and relatives. Halfway through the mass, Tess was called up to say something.
"I," she started "was Mike Ryan's girlfriend and the closest friend he'd had. We were together for almost 2 years." She laughed "Once we went to a Green Day concert and had the best time. We spent so much time together it felt like a lifetime. I wish he was still here so we could spent more time together." Her eyes welled up with tears. "I spent his last hour with him, over the phone. His last words were 'I still love you Tess. I wish we had stayed together. I love you.' Just then he took his last breath and passed away." Tears were pouring from her eyes now. She left the podeum and ran down the aisle in her high heels. The congragation watched as the door slammed behind her. Kevin walked out to find her on the hood of her car crying.
"Tess," He said softly.
She sobbed.
"You don't know how it feels so don't say you do!" She rubbed her eyes." You never lost your best friend, boyfriend or maybe future husband!! I did! So get off my case!"
Kevin backed up.
"Tess, I DID lose a friend! He died of cancer a year ago!" He sniffed. " He was my BROTHER!"
Tess cried harder, sorry she had ever hurt Kevin.
He continued.
"If you don't respect the relationsip I had with my brother, I think we're through. Good bye Tess."
He walked off, leaving Tess in her misery.
